Language consists of three elements,namely,pronunciation,grammar and vocabulary,and vocabulary consists of pronunciation,form,meaning,Vocabulary is an important part of communication.Therefore,teachers should give full attention to the importance of English Vocabulary Teaching in EFL Teaching.From the perspectives of research trends and contents,this paper first provides a general survey of English vocabulary teaching research in China during the past fourteen years.The research findings,based on the analysis of research papers published in fifteen of the important Chinese EFL journals,are summarized and classified.Besides,the author tentatively points out some existing problems.Based on the theory of information processing and current researches about the use of this theory in English teaching,an experimental study of the use of the theory of information processing in English vocabulary teaching is conducted in a high school in Quan Zhou city.The study shows the following advantages of this method:1.The students learn to use more ways and strategies to acquire vocabulary.2.The students memorize words faster and better.3.The English scores of the students are also improved in a certain sense.Of course,this teaching method,like other methods,has its own limitations.For example,it is more suitable in teaching the breadth of vocabulary instead of the depth of vocabulary. |
