Research On The Strategies For The Interpretation Of Chinese Ancient Poetry In Foreign Affairs From The Perspective Of The Adaptation Theory

In recent years,as China has become increasingly strong in terms of its national strength,it starts to have a say and plays an important role in the world.Deeply impressed by China’s development and achievements,the whole world began to focus on China’s development of diplomacy,culture,education and the like.Chinese ancient poetry,as the essence of Chinese culture,has its unique beauty in both rhyme and form,and is good at using concise and refined language to convey profound connotations,which has long been a focus of attention for foreigners.The trend of translating Chinese ancient poetry started as early as the 16th century,and the Chinese Literature gradually exerted influence on the whole world.Nowadays,more and more national leaders tend to quote from Chinese ancient poetry on the occasions of foreign affairs due to its great influence.However,the difficulty has long existed in how to interpret Chinese ancient poetry appropriately in the field of interpretation.What’s more,most of the studies in this field were made under the guidance of the Interpretative Theory of Translation,and some relevant analyses were made based on the former Chinese premier Wen Jiabao’s quotations from Chinese ancient poetry as the corpus.For this reason,the thesis will make a study of 50 quotations from Chinese ancient poetry by President Xi on some major diplomatic occasions under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory put forward by Verschueren in 1999,and summarize some strategies for the interpretation of the Chinese ancient poetry quoted,with the aim of helping interpreters improve their quality of interpreting Chinese ancient poetry.The present study has found that there is something for the interpretation of the Chinese ancient poetry to go by instead of being in disorder.Generally speaking,we can sum up the strategies for the interpretation of Chinese ancient poetry from the perspectives of language,syntax and cultural context,which can fully adapt the language choice,and realize the speaker’s intentions.From the linguistic perspective,we can extend the meaning of words,including the transformation for the part of speech,specification,addition and deletion.At the syntactical level,we can adopt the way of hypotaxis or parataxis by means of adding conjunctions or subjects to a sentence.Finally,in the aspect of the cultural context adaptation,we can choose and use domestication or dissimilation,depending on the specific situation.By means of studying all the strategies,it is hoped that this thesis will help people widen their scope of knowledge about the strategies for the interpretation of Chinese ancient poetry,thus further improving their level of interpretation in this area.
