Exploring Foreign Interpretation Skills From The Perspective Of Translation Theory

The writer analyzes the techniques of interpretation for foreign affairs from the perspective of translation variation theory.According to the theory of translation variation proposed by professor Huang Zhonglian,the writer analyzes the report on the work of the government in 2016,and finds out its features and the difficulties in interpretation.Based on the translation variation theory,the writer has raised the corresponding strategies for variable translation which are adopted in interpretation for foreign affairs,including addition,reduction and compilation.The writer studies the official version of the government work report and classifies the features of the source language into following types.They are multiple parallel phrases or short sentences,Chinese subject-less sentences,culture-loaded words with Chinese characteristics,Chinese lexical repetition,redundant adjunct words,and Chinese long sentences.Based on a large number of specific examples,the writer comes up with three types of strategies for variable translation.The first strategy is addition for multiple parallel phrases or short sentences,Chinese subject-less sentences,and culture-loaded words with Chinese characteristics.The second strategy is reduction for Chinese lexical repetition and redundant adjunct words.The third strategy is compilation for Chinese long sentences.The research of this article will provide interpreters some enlightenment in the interpretation of the government work report in the future,and also be helpful for interpreting majors to improve the quality of Chinese-English interpretation.
