The Audio-lingual method has been widely practiced through the world since its first introduction in 1942.At that time,it was used for special purpose in the US Army and its outstanding efficiency kept its prevalence even after the war.Now teachers around the world are still using this method,especially in the US and in its various Chinese programs in China and other places.On the other hand,with the development of the prevailing Communicative method,the idea that communicative skill being the ultimate goal of second language learners has been accepted by most scholars.This thesis is trying to propose a design for training activities in intensive reading course,based on valuable experience of Audio-lingual method and Communicative method,with a consideration of the actual situation in Chinese Universities.We divide intensive reading course into two types,including instruction class and training class;each class will be practiced with different training methods,according to different training goals.We hope to improve the efficiency of intensive reading course through our discussion.
