A Probe Into The Factors Affecting The Target Language Fluency In C-E Consecutive Interpreting And Their Countermeasures

Fluency is one of the standards for evaluating the interpreting quality.Currently,scholars at home and abroad focus more on studying the oral fluency in second language and the individual disfluency phenomena in interpreting,while relatively few of them make an in-depth study of the fluency in interpreting,especially the target language fluency in consecutive interpreting.This thesis is an empirical study of the factors affecting the target language fluency in C-E consecutive interpreting with MTI interpreting majors as subjects.The author selects three passages from Shortcut for Simultaneous Interpretation—Skill Training Course for Advanced English Interpretation written by Chen Xiang as the interpreting material.The content involves holiday tourism,international marriage and environmental protection industry.Eight second-year MTI interpreting majors are selected as the subjects of the study.By means of interpreting tests,simulated recall and interviews,factors affecting the target language fluency of MTI interpreting majors in C-E consecutive interpreting are studied and some corresponding countermeasures are offered,so as to provide guidance for MTI interpreting majors to improve their fluency in C-E consecutive interpreting.The author of this thesis makes a detailed study and analysis of the samples,and simulated recall and interview information fed back by eight MTI interpreting majors.The findings show that factors affecting the target language fluency of MTI interpreting majors in C-E consecutive interpreting mainly include an interpreter’s proficiency of the target language,note-taking,the processing of numerical information,short-term memory and psychological factors.By referring to previous studies,conrresponding countermeasures are offered by the author.The study has a great significance for guiding the instruction of MTI interpreting majors and the cultivation of high-level interpreters.
