Objectives:This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the effect of statins on carotid artery disease combined with different underlying diseases of carotid artery intimamedia thickness(CIMT).Methods:Using Pub Med,EMBASE,Cochrane database,CNKI,Wanfang and VIP database for systematic retrieval,Q statistical analysed the heterogeneity of research,though calculating the common average difference between the control group and the treatment group,the research evaluated the significantness of the therapeutic effect.Two-sided errors of less than 0.05,α are considered statistically significant.Results:1.When follow-up time was 0.5 year,statins can delay CIMT change compared to placebos[SMD=-0.42,95%CI(-0.69,-0.15),P=0.003];When follow-up time more than 0.5 years,statins can also delay CIMT change compared to placebos[SMD=-0.31,95%CI(-0.38,-0.24),P<0.00001];2.When researches divided different base diseases groups into different subgroups,statins can delay CIMT change compared to placebos in Dyslipidemias[SMD=-0.31,95%CI(-0.37,-0.24),P<0.00001]、in Hypertension[SMD=-0.30,95%CI(-0.42,-0.18),P<0.0001]、in Diabetes[SMD=-0.64,95%CI(-1.00,-0.28),P=0.0005]、in Coronary Heart Disease[SMD=-0.43,95%CI(-0.61,-0.25),P<0.00001],but statins can not delay CIMT change in Rheumatic diseases[SMD=-0.10,95%CI(-0.27,0.08),P=0.27]3.When several statin species are discussed,Simvastatin[SMD=-0.38,95%CI(-0.66,-0.10),P=0.008]、Rosuvastatin[SMD=-0.28,95%CI(-0.38,-0.19),P<0.00001]、Fluvastatin[SMD=-0.03,95%CI(-0.04,-0.01),P=0.0003]、pravastatin[SMD=-0.37,95%CI(-0.50,-0.23),P<0.00001]、Atorvastatin([SMD=-1.07,95%CI(-1.29,-0.85),P<0.00001](follow-up is 0.5 year)、[SMD=-0.18,95%CI(-0.37,0.00),P=0.05](follow-up more than 0.5 year))can delay CIMT compared to placebos.4.When studying changes in LDL,HDL,TG,and TC,statins can decrease the serum concentration TC[SMD=-1.24,95%CI(-1.37,-1.11),P<0.00001],and increase the serum concentration in HDL[SMD=0.05,95%CI(0.03,0.08),P<0.00001].Conclusions:1.When people suffered from carotid artery diseases,regardless of the base diseases background,statins can delay CIMT change.2.Statins can delay CIMT changes for patients with hyperlipidemia or dyslipidemias or diabetes or Coronory Heart Diseases,but statins can not delay CIMT changes for patients with Rheumatic diseases.3.Simvastatin、Fluvastatin 、pravastatin、Rosuvastatin and Atovastatin can delay CIMT changes.4.statins can statins can decrease the serum concentration in LDL、TG and TC,and increase the serum concentration in HDL.
