Family Structure,Intergenerational Support And The Relationship Between The Health Of The Elderly ——Based On CHARLS Data

In recent years,the aging situation has intensified,and China is facing severe risks and challenges.To solve this problem,it is urgent for my country to embark on a path of healthy aging with characteristics.It was mentioned in the report of the 19 th CPC National Congress that we will implement the development strategy of a Healthy China and actively respond to the problem of population aging.The key to transforming aging into healthy is to improve the health of the elderly.Studies in the literature have shown that the factors affecting the health status of the elderly are mainly reflected in many aspects such as personal,family and social.Nowadays,as society continues to change and family structures become smaller,intergenerational family support is an important component of family aging.However,how exactly do family structure and intergenerational support affect health in old age and how do they interact with each other? The final conclusion for the current research has not been able to reach unity.Therefore,it is important to grasp the mechanism of the relationship between family structure,intergenerational support and health in old age,and to clarify the role and position of the family in the protection of health in old age,in order to enhance the well-being of the elderly and address the problem of aging.Based on the review of related literature and theories,the paper analyzed and defined the concepts related to family structure,intergenerational support and elderly health and the role relationships among them,analyzed the mediating effects of intergenerational support and the moderating effects of factors such as year,gender,urban-rural,pension insurance and health insurance,proposed nine research hypotheses,and constructed a theoretical model of the relationships among family structure,intergenerational support and elderly health.Based on the data of 2013,2015 and 2018 from the CHARLS database,an empirical study was conducted using descriptive statistics,correlation analysis,structural equation modeling and multiple cohort analysis to analyze the impact effects of key factors,their impact paths and their significant changes.The study found that:（1）The results of the three key impact pathways were significant and supported the relevant research hypotheses.Family structure had a significant positive effect on intergenerational support and intergenerational support on geriatric health,while family structure formed a significant negative effect on health in old age;further tests of the mediating effect of intergenerational support indicated that intergenerational support played a significant partially mediating role in the relationship between family structure and geriatric health.（2）A multi-cluster analysis based on differences in year,gender,urban-rural,presence of pensions and health insurance showed that the pathways of influence produced significant differences between the different clusters,verifying the significant moderating effects presented by each of the above variables in the relationship between family structure,intergenerational support and health in old age.Finally,the thesis proposes countermeasures to improve the health of the elderly in terms of "strengthening intergenerational support and encouraging remarriage of the elderly;strengthening health awareness and education of the elderly;and improving the health protection system for the elderly”.
