| Objective To investigate the prevalence of ametropia and its influencing factors in4237 children aged 7-12 years in Wuxi City. Methods A total of 4237 children from 5 primary schools in Wuxi city were randomly selected from November 2018 to December 2018 to have eye examinations including visual acuity and refraction status. The age-specific prevalence rates of ametropia were calculated, and children were divided into the normal group(SE >-0.5 d,n=2362)and the abnormal group(SE≤-0.5 d,n=1875)according to the refraction status. The multivariate Logistic regression model was established to identify the risk factors of ametropia. Results Significant differences were observed in visual acuity distribution among different age groups(P < 0.05),and the proportion of children with visual acuity <0.1,0.1-0.4,0.5-0.6,0.7-0.8 increased with age(P < 0.05),while the proportion of children with visual acuity > 0.8 decreased gradually(P < 0.05).There were significant difference in prevalence of ametropia among different age groups(P <0.05).The prevalence rate of ametropia in children 12-< 13 years old was significantly higher than that of other age groups(P < 0.05).There was no significant difference between the two groups in gender, refractive abnormalities and birth weight(all P > 0.05).The proportions of children with age ≥9 years, daily sleep time< 8 h,no good eye habits, unbalanced nutrition and no regular visual examination in the abnormal group were significantly higher than that in the normal group(P <0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that ≥9 years old, daily sleep time < 8 h,bad eye habits, nutrition imbalance and not regularly checked vision were risk factors of ametropia among children aged 7-12 years(all P < 0.05).Conclusion In 2018,among the 4,237 children from 5 primary schools in Wuxi city, the prevalence of ametropia was relatively high, and there were many influencing factors, such as age ≥ 9 years old, daily sleep time < 8 h,bad eye habits, nutrition imbalance, and not regularly checking eyesight, which should be paid close attention to. |
