OBJECTIVE: This study measured the diameter of perforating vein(PVs)at lower extremity and divided it into groups according to different clinical manifestations to explore the relationship between diameter of PVs at lower extremity and venous ulcer.METHODS: Clinical data of 120 patients(164 lower extremities)with PVs of lower extremities found functional insufficiency by ultrasound examination in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University from August 2018 to November 2020 were collected, and divided into groups according to different clinical manifestations. The lower extremities with no obvious clinical symptoms were classified as asymptomatic group(group A).The lower extremities with varicose veins and no pathological changes in the skin were divided into varicose group(group B).The lower limbs with skin changes and healed ulcers but no active ulcers were assigned to the static ulcer group(group C).The lower extremity group with active ulcer was set as active ulcer group(group D).Color Doppler ultrasound was performed in each group and the diameter of PVs was measured, and the measured values were statistically analyzed.RESULTS: The diameter of 95% lower limb PVs in group A was > 2.2mm;95% of PVs in group B were > 3.0mm in diameter. The diameter of 95%perforating venous in group C was > 3.9mm.95% of PVs in group D were >4.6mm in diameter. There were statistically significant differences in PVs diameters among groups A,B,C and D(P < 0.05).CONCLUSIONS:The lower extremity perforating vein diameter > was2.2mm and ≤ 3.0mm without obvious symptoms.the lower extremity varicose veins with lower extremity edema were more likely to occur after the lower extremity perforating vein diameter > 3.0mm.When the diameter of the perforating vein > was 3.9mm and ≤4.6mm,local skin lesions of the lower extremities could occur, and ulcers were mostly in the static phase. An active venous ulcer of the lower extremity appears after puncture of a vein with a diameter of > 4.6mm.
