Background:Previous studies at home and abroad have deeply discussed the status of sexual knowledge,attitudes,and behaviors in public universities.However,few studies focus on the current situation among private university students.The purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of sexual knowledge,attitudes,and behavior of from a private university in Jinan,and to provide basic data for sexual health education of private university students.Methods:In this study,a convenient cluster sampling method was used to select students from a private university in Jinan.The basic demographic data,sexual knowledge,attitudes and behaviors were obtained by a self-designed questionnaire.In totally,1500 questionnaires were distributed.After excluding invalid questionnaires(e.g.incomplete answers,wrong answers,missed answers,and irregular answers),1420 valid questionnaires were finally left with an effective rate of 94.67%.The average age was 20.5(18.0-23.0)years among the 1420 college students,including 431 male students(30.35%)and 989 female students(69.65%).There were 636 freshmen(44.80%),531 sophomores(37.39%),196 juniors(13.80%),and 57 seniors(4.01%),respectively.Data was entered by EpiData3.0 and analyzed by SPSS16.0.The Chi-square test was used to compare the difference of sexual knowledge,attitudes,and behaviors between different groups.Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the impact of potential variables and sexual behaviors.Two side P<0.05 was considered as significant differences.Results:1.Current situation of sexual knowledge:Totally,62.04%of the 1420 students had a normal understanding of sexual knowledge.43.73%of college students thought it is seriously necessary to offer sexual health education,37.75%thought it is necessary,and 10.70%thought it doesn’t matter,respectively.The proportion of sex education received in schools with significant achievement,average effect,unclear statements,unresolved practical problems,and worse were 8.59%,44.15%,30.77%,14.72%,and 1.76%,respectively.The proportion of setting up compulsory courses,setting up optional courses,holding lectures,broadcasting films and TV programs,and sending books and periodicals was 15.77%,29.72%,36.76%,and 17.75%respectively.23.20%of male students chose to set up compulsory courses,which was higher than female students(12.56%).The proportion of holding lectures among female students was 40.32%,which was significantly higher than that among male students(28.77%).The proportion of choosing broadcast movies and TV shows and sending books and periodicals among male students was 21.35%,which was significantly higher than that of female students(16.21%).2.Current situation of sexual attitudes:Most students have clear sexual attitudes,and they have their own subjective views on the relationship between love and sex,one-night stand,and compensated dating.70%of the students thought sex must accompany with love.Male and female students hold different views on love and sex.94.94%of female students thought sex must accompany with love or even have no sexual,while 30.16%of men thought that love and sex can be simultaneous(P<0.001).60.32%of male students thought that they could have sex before marriage as long as they were willing,which was higher than that of female students(31.14%).61.48%of female students hold a neutral attitude toward unmarried pregnancy,which was higher than that of male students(42.92%).85.74%of female students thought that homosexuality was a normal emotional choice,only different in sexual orientation,and the proportion was significantly higher than that of male students(70.77%).However,19.49%of male students thought that homosexuality was a kind of abnormal psychological distortion,which was significantly higher than that of female students(10.01%).54.30%of male and female students expressed that they were opposed to compensated dating,and 31.55%of male students understood compensated dating,which was significantly higher than female students(18.40%)(P<0.001).The proportion of female students totally opposed to the compensated dating was 59.35%,which was significantly higher than that of male students(42.69%)(P<0.001).65.21%of college students disapproved one-night stands and 6.69%approved.The proportion of female students who disapproved one-night stands was 73.31%,which was significantly higher than that of male students(46.64%)(P<0.001).The proportion of male students with an indifferent attitude was 36.66%,which was significantly higher than that of female students(24.37%)(P<0.001).3.Current situation of sexual behavior:The prevalence of sexual behavior was 30.42%among college students.The proportion of male students who had sexual behavior was 52.20%,which was higher than that of female students(20.93%),and the proportion of urban college students who had sexual behavior was 34.92%,which was higher than that of rural college students(28.91%)(P<0.001).68.80%of college students hold views that sexual behavior can be consensual before marriage.The logistic regression analysis showed that gender,the understanding of knowledge about sexual knowledge,the attitudes toward premarital sexual behavior and sexual concept were associated with the generation of sexual behavior,while the single parent of family and students’hometown was not associated with the occurrence of sexual behavior.Boys(OR=2.56,95%CI=1.95-3.35),understanding more sexual knowledge(OR=1.73,95%CI=1.47-2.05),holds more open views about premarital sexual(OR=1.32,95%CI=1.16-1.52),had increased risk of sexual behavior,while conservative concept of sex had decreased risk of sexual behavior(OR=0.61,95%CI=0.53-0.71).Conclusions:1.Private college students had a general understanding of sexual knowledge and it was necessary to offer sexual health education courses.College students acquired sexual knowledge in a variety of ways,and female students were more conservative in receiving sexual knowledge and education,which was mainly received from schools.2.Private college students were more open to sex.Urban college students were more open to sex than rural college students.Girls are more opposed to one-night stand than boys,and they are more conservative about premarital sex and premarital pregnancy.3.The prevalence of sexual behavior among college students was high.The proportion of male students having sex was higher than that of female students,and the proportion of sexual behavior in urban college students was higher than that in rural college students.The higher the level of sexual knowledge,the more open the view of premarital sex,the more likely to have sex.The more conservative of the sexual concepts the less likely to have sex.
