Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between quality of life and mental state(anxiety, depression)before treatment and prognosis of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and to explore whether it has the value of predicting the survival of patients with nasophary. Methods :The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30(EORTC QLQ-C30),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)were used to investigate the nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients before treatment.A database was established for statistical analysis of each questionnaire score, and Cox proportional risk regression model was used to explore the predictive value of quality of life, anxiety, and depression on progression-free survival(PFS),local relapse-free survival(LRFS),and distant metastase-free survival(DMFS).Results: 1.A total of 133 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were enrolled in this study. The physical function field of patients’ quality of life scored the highest, with a mean of 90.28 and a standard deviation of 11.93.2.Among the enrolled patients,21 patients(15.79%)were considered to have anxiety and 30 patients(22.56%)were considered to have depression.3.The scores in some areas of quality of life were significantly correlated with anxiety and depression, among which the scores of physical function were significantly correlated with anxiety and depression(P = 0.006 and 0.013,respectively).4.Multivariate analysis showed that physical function score had predictive value for PFS and DMFS(P = 0.032 and 0.037,respectively).5.After grouping patients according to physical function scores, the PFS and DMFS of patients in the high physical function group were significantly better than those in the low physical function group(P = 0.011 and0.007,respectively).Conclusions: The physical function score of quality of life before treatment could independently predict the variables of PFS and DMFS in patients with NPC.
