Objective: This is a retrospective study of the clinical information of eighty five adult patients with unilateral articulator con method fracture treated by the Department of Oral and external body part Surgery of the primary connected Hospital of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region Medical University throughout the five-year amount. The results of the study are presented here. Methods: Here, the case data of 85 adults with unilateral intracondylar fractures of the mandibular condyle treated by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University over a five-year period(from early January 2016 to the end of December 2020)were retrospectively studied and each case data was carefully analyzed for complications, clinical outcomes, basic information, treatment methods, and fracture types.Of the 85 patients admitted,54 were treated surgically and the remaining 31 were not treated surgically.Based on the clinical information before and after both treatments is the clinical outcome(joint function, facial nerve palsy function, condylar mobility, degree of mouth opening, occlusal relationship, opening pattern, etc.)and CT scans and surface tomograms were evaluated, usually with a follow-up period of 1-12 months.RESULTS:The percentage of patients visited after 12 full months was 94%,80 cases,of which 30 cases were in both the surgical and non-surgical treatment groups. There were no significant differences in arthralgia, occlusal disturbance, lateral jaw mobility, condylar extension and degree of mouth opening in all cases before treatment.(P>0.05).There was a statistically significant difference between non-surgical and surgical treatments in improving occlusal disorders(P<0.05).In contrast, there was no statistical difference between non-surgical and surgical treatments in terms of improving mandibular deviation, pain in the articular region, condylar mobility, and degree of vertical mouth opening(P>0.05).All patients had no manifestations such as facial paralysis. There was a statistically significant difference between non-surgical and surgical treatment in reducing condylar resorption and restoring condylar position(P<O.05),but there was no statistically significant difference in complications such as joint ankylosis and condylar deformation(P>0.05).(P>0.05).Conclusion: The difference between non-surgical and surgical treatment is obvious, especially for the prevention of joint ankylosis and the improvement of condylar mobility and vertical opening after intracondylar capsule fracture, which is clinically significant;in terms of restoring the most basic condylar position and occlusal relationship, surgical treatment can easily promote the reduction of condylar resorption after intracondylar fracture, and in this regard,non-surgical treatment is inferior to surgical treatment.
