In Chinese society, the concept of "raising children and preventing old age" is deeply rooted in people’s hearts.Family pension is a typical informal care model, and adult children are the main providers of family pension services.Family oldage care is the main way to solve the problem of old-age care for the elderly.Although China’s social pension insurance system has achieved certain results at this stage, there are still many deficiencies.Nearly 30% of the country’s population has not been included in the pension insurance plan, and the financial support provided by the pension insurance cannot meet the normal life needs of the elderly.Especially in the vast rural areas, the participation rate of the elderly and the amount of protection provided by pension insurance are still very low.In the context of an aging population, the total number of elderly people is increasing year by year, and the old-age dependency ratio continues to rise, resulting in huge payment pressures on pension insurance fund accounts. Therefore,it is not feasible to rely on the government to solve the old-age pension problem. In response to this situation,in order to ensure the supply of basic old-age care services for the elderly, improve the health of the elderly, and enable them to enjoy their old age, they should pay attention to the role of child support and give full play to the advantages of the family pension model. This article uses the representative micro data of China Family Tracking Survey(CFPS)in 2016 and 2018,and mainly uses the method of ordered Probit model and instrumental variables to examine the health status of elderly parents and children’s non-economic care in the context of China’s family pension. The effect of parents’ health was investigated.First, the effects of adult child care on parents’ selfassessment of physical health and self-evaluation behavior were analyzed from three aspects: the closeness of children and parents, the care of children’s household chores or diet, and the frequency of children’s meeting with parents.Furthermore, for the main differences in the economic characteristics of the sample population, heterogeneity analysis was conducted from the perspective of household registration and gender.Secondly, the difference method was used to analyze the inter-temporal changes of the main variables of the sample, and the dynamic correlation between the two was further explored. Finally, for the potential endogenous problems of the empirical model, the provincial urban unemployment rate data is selected as the instrumental variable, and the instrumental variable method is used for two-stage regression analysis to obtain the causal relationship between the child care and the health level of the parents. The results show that the intergenerational intimacy has an important impact on the health status of parents. The two have a significant correlation.Parents who are close to their children will have better self-rated health levels.Regression results of instrumental variables in samples show that providing daily care for children can significantly improve the self-evaluation health level and self-evaluation behavior of rural elderly, and can significantly improve the self-evaluation health status of mothers. Not applicable. In addition, the overall analysis of the sample found that the elderly, female, low education level, infrequent physical exercise,no spouse, and rural household registration elderly people generally have poor self-assessment health status and self-care ability. The conclusions of this paper can provide some empirical support for the formulation of relevant policies.
