Objective:To analyze some risk factors which lead to the first symptom was seizures in patients with supratentorial glioma.Method: The clinical neuroimaging and pathological data of 232 patients with supratentorial gliomas in the department of Neurosurgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University were analyzed retrospectively. Results:out of 232 patients with supratentorial glioma that the first symptom in 42 cases was seizures(18.1%),the tumor location of 25 patients were in frontal and temporal lobe(17.6%).25 cases with supratentorial glioma that the first symptom was seizures were low grade supratentorial glioma. The cortex involved by tumor was a factor producing epilepsy in patients with supratentorial glioma that the first symptom was seizures(P<0.05).There was positive correlation between the size of the tumour and the incidence of epilepsy.Peritumoral edema can reduce the incidence of epilepsy(P < 0.05).Size of tumor(B=O.489),tumor location(B=-1.509),Peritumoral edema(B=-0.895),pathological grading(B=-0.737),Cortical involvement(B=0.944)were the significant factors in statistics. These odds ratios were 1.631,0.221,0.409,0.478,2.571 respectively. Conclusion:The incidence of epilepsy in the patients with supratentorial glioma is related to the location and size of tumor,Cortical involvement, pathological grading and the peritumoral edema.
