The quality of cultivated land is very important to realize grain storage and food security in China. In terms of cultivated land quality protection, laws, regulations and administrative management have been constantly improved, and the deterioration of cultivated land quality has been contained to a certain extent, but the cultivated land quality has not reached the expected goal. The reason is that many policies in recent years have targeted land use units, less from the perspective of individual farmers. It is difficult to mobilize the enthusiasm of farmers to protect cultivated land quality.Policy implementation has lag.Farmers are the key determinants of cultivated land, the most important role in protecting cultivated land quality, and the main beneficiaries of improving cultivated land quality.Encouraging farmers to take the initiative to protect the quality of cultivated land and giving play to the role of farmers in the protection of cultivated land quality is particularly important for the realization of the goal of improving the quality of cultivated land. Therefore,it is very important to analyze farmers’ willingness to invest in farmland quality protection and its influencing factors, and put forward targeted guidance measures to enhance farmers’ willingness to invest. This paper reviews the literature related to cultivated land quality protection.Taking Dujiangyan as the research area.Farmers of different generations were studied. In the form of questionnaire survey,466 farmers were investigated on the spot. The binary Logit regression model was constructed to empirically analyze the data collected from the questionnaire. The influence of different factors on farmers’ willingness to invest in cultivated land quality protection was studied.Through the previous research, the following three conclusions are drawn:(1)there is an intergenerational difference in the willingness of farmers to invest in farmland quality protection. The investment willingness of the new generation farmers is stronger than that of the Mesozoic farmers. The input willingness of old generation farmers was weaker than that of Mesozoic farmers.(2)More people choose capital biased farmland quality protection investment than labor biased farmland quality protection investment. The difference between capital-biased and labor-biased farmers in the old generation is the largest, followed by the Mesozoic generation, and the new generation is the smallest.(3)The individual characteristics of farmers, the characteristics of farmers’ families, the characteristics of farming conditions and information cognition affect farmers’ willingness to invest in farmland quality protection and their willingness to choose measures to invest in farmland quality protection. And there are generational differences. On the basis of the above research results, combined with the actual situation in the rural areas of Dujiangyan, this paper puts forward four suggestions on strengthening publicity and education, promoting technology popularization, increasing subsidies and paying attention to the health status of farmers. Thus, farmers’ willingness to invest in farmland quality protection will be strengthened.
