With the improvement of people’s living level, more and more people join the ranks of raising pet dogs.By raising pets,it can enhance the interaction between people and animals, reduce people’s daily work pressure, and provide people with a sense of life happiness. However, pet dogs often face the problem of ectoparasite infection in the process of breeding, which not only affects the basic health and welfare of dogs, but also brings adverse effects on the interaction experience between owners and pet dogs, and even may increase the potential risk of pet dogs, other animals and humans suffering from parasitic diseases or parasite borne virus diseases. Therefore,it is of great significance to understand the current situation of regional parasite infection on pet dog’s body surface through epidemiological investigation, which provides reference basis to the prevention, control or elimination of ectoparasitic diseases of pet dogs.Based on the cases of dogs infected with ectoparasites in 15 branches of Beibeikang pet hospital in Changsha City from January 2019 to January 2020(612 cases in total),the total number of dogs infected with ectoparasites and the number of dogs infected with different types of ectoparasites under different conditions(dog breed, dog sex,dog age, season, whether the dog was deworming or not,and the health status of dog living environment, etc.)were counted. And the total proportions of ectoparasite infection under different conditions and different types of ectoparasite infection were calculated, respectively. The results showed that:1.Among 612 cases of ectoparasite infection, flea cases were 104,lice cases were 101,tick cases were 49,mite cases were 206,and mixed infection cases were 152(including two or more types).Among them, mite infection percentage was the highest, accounting for33.66%;mixed infection percentage was the second, accounting for 24.84%.2.The dog breed with the highest infection percentage of ectoparasites was poodles(17.48%),followed by bichon frise(14.87%).3.The total number of pet dogs under 1 year old infected with all kinds of ectoparasites was the highest, accounting for 54.41%.With the increase of age,the total number of dogs infected with the ectoparasites was decreased significantly. The total proportion of dogs over5 years old infected with the ectoparasites was only 2.29%.4.The number of female pet dogs parasites infected with the body surface was the highest, accounting for 64.38%.In addition, the number and proportion of tick infection in male pet dogs were higher than that in female pet dogs, and the number and proportion of flea, tick and mite infection and mixed infection in other male pet dogs were lower than that in female pet dogs.5.In spring, the total number of pet dogs infected with all kinds of ectoparasites was the highest, accounting for 36.60%,followed by winter,it accounted for 27.61%.Among them,in spring, the proportion of flea and lice single infection and mixed infection were rather higher;in autumn, the proportion of tick single infection was the highest;mite single infection mainly occurred in winter and spring.6.Under different conditions of expelling parasites, the total number of pet dogs infected with the ectoparasites was about equal, and the timely expelling parasites reduced the proportion of flea and lice infection.7.The proportion of fleas, lice, ticks, mites and mixed infections in dogs with "general or unclean living environment" was significantly higher than that in dogs with "clean living environment and occasional disinfection".Thus,it suggested that the breed, sex, age, season, deworming and living environment of dogs were related to the infection of ectoparasites. It indicated that attentions should be paid to strengthening the health management of pet dogs, the raising management of pet dogs, the exercise of dogs, the treatment of insect repellent drugs on a regular basis, etc.
