As the proper excellent economic oilseed tree species indigenous to China,Yellow horn(Xanthoceras sorbifolium)was widely distributed in northern China and widely used for conserving soil and water and improving ecological environment.Because of abundant in oil and the oil was rich in the oleic acid and linoleic acid and unique nervonic acid,yellow horn’s kernel was a high quality raw material for functional drugs and foods and cosmetics;and yellow horn was a biodiesel tree species deserving to be popularized.For its potential economic value,it is increasingly favored by fanmers and planting enterprises.However,the long dormant period,the thick and hard seed coat,and the inclusion of germination inhibitors,etc.of the seed resulted in the very low natural germination rate of the seed,which seriously hindered the large-scale promotion and planting of yellow horn,which was of both ecological and economic value.Therefore,this study collected seeds of yellow horn from 26 provenances and geography-climate information of provenances,and germination experiments were carried out with different prtreatments on seeds of Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge from different provenances to explore the Characteristics and Germination Ability with different pretreatments of seeds of yellow horn from Different Regions,to provide scientific basis for the optimal allocation of seed of yellow horn,also to provide scientific basis for propagation by seeds and the large scale extension,for germplasm conservation and the genetic breeding work of yellow horn.The principal results are as follows:(1)It is suggested that the variation of phenotypic traits of seed of yellow horn is rich,and has a random variation trait.Correlation is extremely significant among most phenotypic traits.There is no significant correlation among each phenotypic trait with latitude and longitude.Altitude has a great influence on the phenotypic traits of the seed of yellow horn.Phenotypic traits from Tubuxin provenance are the best among 26 provenances.(2)The germination rate,germination index and germination time of seeds from 26 provenances were very significantly different(P<0.001)under diverse pretreatment methods.The second pretreatment method that is soaking with PEG arfter sand storage was optimal in germination rate,germination index and germination time.(3)Correlation is significant among germination rate with germination index,is not significant among germination rate with germination time,and is not significant among germination index with germination time,and is extremely significant(P<0.01)among germination time 4 with seed length,seed breath,seed thick,seed weight,kernel weight,coat weight and 100-seed weight.(4)There were significant differences in germination time of seeds from 26 provenances under 5 treatments;under the pretreatments of soaked by water or PEG for 24 hours,the comprehensive scores of provenance from Keqv are both the highest;under the pretreatment of warm water,the comprehensive scores of provenance from Dongfeng is the highest;under the pretreatment of cold water,the comprehensive scores of provenance from Tubuxin is the highest;under the pretreatment 5 of not be disposed,the comprehensive scores of provenance from Kulun is the highest;the provenances that obtain higher final comprehensive scores of Germination ability are Zhaqi,Keqv,Hanwa,Shebotu,Wudan,Fuxinwangfu,Kulun,Houqi,Tubuxin,Linyi,Naiman,Baishan and Dongying,etc.
