Glycerol monolaurate(GML)is one of the medium chain fatty acid esters,which is often used as emulsifier and preservative.It has antibacterial,antiviral and other biological functions.Recent studies have shown that GML can promote the growth of animals.This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of glycerol monolaurate(GML)on growth performance,serum indexes and rumen microbial community of weaned lambs.A total of 36 healthy weaned lambs with average body weight of(11.46 ±0.88)kg were randomly divided into 3 groups: control group(CON group),GML group and SOL group,with 3 replicates per group and 4 lambs per replicate.Weaned lambs in the control group were fed a basal diet,weaned lambs in the GML group were fed the basal diet + 1.84 g / kg GML(GML ≥ 93%),and others in the SOL group were fed the basal diet + 3 g / kg solider(GML ≥ 57%,diglyceride laurate ≥ 6%,tributyrin ≥ 14%).The results showed as follows:1)Compared with the CON group,the addition of GML could significantly increase the average daily gain of weaned lambs from 15 to 42 days of the experiment(P < 0.05),and significantly increase the heart girth on the 42 th day of the experiment(P < 0.05).The daily gain of weaned lambs was significantly increased by adding SOL during the 29 to 42 days(P < 0.05).Compared with the CON group and the SOL group,the activity of alkaline phosphatase was significantly increased(P < 0.05),the content of triglyceride was significantly decreased(P < 0.05),the content of glycerin density lipoprotein cholesterol,the activity of glutathione peroxidase and the content of total antioxidant capacity were significantly increased(P < 0.05),and the content of interleukin-2 was decreased in GML group(0.05 < P < 0.1).The apparent digestibility of crude protein increased in GML group(P = 0.078).The apparent digestibility of neutral detergent fiber in SOL group was significantly higher than that in CON group(P < 0.05).2)The addition of sol could significantly increase the diversity of rumen microbial community in weaned lambs(P < 0.05).At the phylum level,the abundance of Actinobacteria in GML group increased significantly(P < 0.05),while that of Verrucomicrobia in SOL group increased significantly(P < 0.05).At the family level,the abundance of Lachnospiraceae in SOL group tended to increase(0.05 < P < 0.1).At genus level,the abundance of Ruminococcus in GML group decreased significantly(P < 0.05).In conclusion,GML and SOL can improve the growth performance of weaned lambs.GML is better than SOL in improving lipid metabolism and antioxidant capacity of weaned lambs,and SOL is better than GML in regulating rumen microbial community of weaned lambs.
