At the moment when the animals were born in prehistoric times,the feed was born.From the perspective of feed resources utilization the first mouthful of feed for prehistoric livestock,whether refined or not,can be understood as the result of the first development of feed resources.Feed is the material basis for the survival and growth of livestock.Therefore,the development of feed resources has been paid attention to throughout the ancient dynasties,and this work has basically not stopped with the replacement of the dynasties.The Qin and Han Dynasties were the peak period of the early feudal society in China,and it was also a period of development of ancient Chinese feed.Especially in the introduction of alfalfa,the development of local feed resources and the invention of feed formula,it has made achievements beyond the predecessors.In the history of China,the Period of Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties can be called a big turbulent period.Frequent wars have caused a great impact on the economy.However,the unprecedented demand for horse in merger and amalgamation wars has continued to promote the development of animal husbandry.During this period,a number of giant pastures were established one after another.While continuing to develop feed resources,the feed entered a refined development,and livestock and poultry were reared according to their habits.Moreover,in the past,the main mode of grazing has gradually been replaced by the combination of grazing and feeding,and the proportion of housing and feeding has increased significantly.In the Sui and Tang Dynasties,the state of separatism in the previous era was basically reversed,and the state situation was relatively unified and stable.The animal husbandry industry entered another period of great development and it was also a period of great transformation.The Tang Dynasty established a large-scale feed base,revised the "Barnyard Law"(legal provisions on cattle and horses raising,management and warehouse management),and also broke the pre-regulation of alfalfa only feeding royal horses,and widely planted and utilized.Unprecedentedly,a relatively comprehensive and systematic feed standard has emerged in the management of livestock and poultry,with wisdom beyond the times.The territory of the Song Dynasty was small and was affected by the war.The conditions for the development of animal husbandry were far less than those of the previous generation.However,on the whole,its animal husbandry still had some development compared with the previous generation.As a dynasty established by nomadic people,the importance of animal husbandry in the Yuan Dynasty can be imagined.Most of the feed and feeding of livestock have followed the previous generation and developed to varying degrees.Among them,the management and protection of grassland,the feeding of large livestock and the refinement of the official job of the feed are obviously beyond the previous generation.And the creative developments are the proposal of a new feeding method,the emergence of fermented feed and the first record of freshwater fish feed,which have a profound impact on the feeding of future generations of livestock.During the Qin to Yuan dynasty,China continued to innovate and develop in the utilization of livestock and poultry feed.It has made certain achievements in the development of feed,the use of forage,and the feeding of livestock.Many accumulated experience has left valuable wealth for future generations,which has laid a solid foundation for the development of animal husbandry and even agriculture,with extremely far-reaching influence and enlightenment.
