The high input of chemical fertilizers has always been a prominent feature of China’s agricultural production. While crop yields increase, which brings a strong negative externality—chemical fertilizer input point source pollution. As the main body of fertilizer use, farmers have an inescapable responsibility for this. However, due to the characteristics of small scale,it is difficult to guide small farmers to reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers use.The emergence and rapid development of the large grain-planting,which is a large-scale operation of farmers, has provided new ideas for solving this problem. This paper takes the use of chemical fertilizers of large grain-planting farmers as a research entry point, guides large grain-planting farmers to use f chemical fertilizers in the scientific and rational way, which not only effectively improves the fertilization behavior of this new agricultural management entity and promotes the benign development of modern agriculture, but also acts as a guide to small farmers. In the other hand,it has a positive effect on the production safety of agricultural products and the prevention and control of non-point source pollution of chemical fertilizers. As a large agricultural province,Anhui Province has excellent agricultural resources, which is one of the China’s important commodity grain bases and one of the six provinces whose grain is net transfer-out.It is representative to conduct an academic survey of large grain-planting farmers in Anhui Province.Based on the theory of scale economy, externality theory and cost-benefit theory, this paper proposes the following hypothesis:The expansion of land scale will help reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.Participation in professional cooperatives will help reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. The longer the land transfer period, the less fertilizer used.Due to field research of 198 large grain-planting farmers data on the use of chemical fertilizers on wheat in Anhui Province, this paper controls the influence of household characteristics, family management characteristics and new technology adoption characteristics on farmers’ fertilizer use, analyzes the effect ofland scale, participation in agricultural cooperatives and land transfer period on the chemical fertilizers use and its mechanism, establish a linear regression model for testing. The empirical results show, that the expansion of the land scale of planting is beneficial to reduce the chemical fertilizers use.Large grain-planting farmers who participates in agricultural cooperatives tend to use less fertilizer than scattered farmers. The longer the land transfer period, the less use of chemical fertilizer. In addition, farmers with higher education level tend to reduce the use of chemical fertilizer.Soil testing and fertilizer recommendation technology has a positive effect on reducing chemical fertilizer use.In view of the current situation of excessive use of chemical fertilizer,in order to guide large grain-planting farmers to use chemical fertilizers in the scientific and rational way.Government ought to promote new agricultural fertilization techniques, regulate rural land transfer behavior and encourage farmers expand land scale appropriately, and accelerate the promotion of farmers’ professional cooperatives in order to achieve coordinated development of agricultural production and environmental protection.
