| Different countries have a variety of geographical, topographical, and climatic conditions. Some countries have their guidelines for design structures, and some depend on other countries to lay down the guidelines.Design codes are the most important and basic tools for structural design engineers. The diversity of codal provisions for countries worldwide lead to the problem when engineers have to move from one country to another.Comparing Russian and Chinese building codes will help form a most effective and economical building design. We mainly compare the differences and similarities in the design using the Chinese Building code(GB50010-2010)and Russian building code(SNiP 52-01-2003).The main objective of this study is to compare the design requirements of the Russian building code(SNi P52-01-2003)with the Chinses building code(GB50010-2010)for the flexural, shear, and axial compression in limit states. The load factors and load combinations in the two codes are also compared.Further, analytical and design study is done by keeping load and load factors constant to reveal the apparent difference in their design approach for beam, column. The basic design principles of the two building codes are the same;they are both based on the limit-states design principle.Their design approaches are very similar;both building codes aim to design safe and economical structures. For the normal concrete structural design, the partial load factors in the two codes are different. For ULS,the partial load factors in the Chinese building code are a little larger than the Russian building code. The code is GB50010-20210,more conservative in terms of the partial factors of safety for loads;for a combination of live and dead load considered in this study, the Chinses building code requires about 22% more than that of the Russian building code. The lateral force effect by SP 20.13330.2011 is more significant than GB5009-2012.Percentage by along X direction and Y direction is 11%.The Displacement for the top story of the G+17 story building as per SP 20.13330.2011 is larger than GB5009-2012.Percentage by along X direction and Y direction is 7%.The Drift for the top story of the G+17 story building as per SP 20.13330.2011 is larger than GB5009-2012.Percentage by along X direction and Y direction is 5%.The analysis and design beam and column for the combination of dead and imposed load shows that both amounts of flexural and transverse reinforcements required by the GB 50010-2010 are significant than the SNi P52-01-2003.Therefore,according to the Chinses building code, the Russian building code is more economical to design. |
