Retaining walls, slope protections and other kinds of slope retaining structures need to be built on both sides of the railway in mountainous areas. For a slope, various slope retaining structures are usually used together. These structures will inevitably appear various diseases after the railway has been built and put into operation for a certain period of time.Meanwhile, geological hazards occur frequently along some railways in mountainous areas, which can endanger the safety of slope retaining structures. At present, although some scholars have carried out research on the risk assessment of slope retaining structures, they mainly focus on a certain type of slope retaining structure, which means that few studies have been done on risk assessment under the condition of using varieties of slope retaining structures together. The research results of slope retaining structure assessment methods are also simple. When the assessment indexes are weighted, fixed weights are still used, which can’t accurately reflect the safety state of projects. The adverse effects of geological hazards around slope retaining structures are also not sufficiently studied in the risk assessment standard. In addition, although drilling detection and Ground Penetrating Radar have been used to detect the internal and back conditions of retaining walls and slope protections, there are few research on quantifying the detection results and integrating them into the risk assessment system of slope retaining structures. Therefore, this thesis focuses on the above issues. In this thesis,by means of literature investigation and field survey, the types and causes of diseases which slope retaining structures have were analyzed. In terms of detection techniques, according to the principles of drilling detection and Ground Penetrating Radar, the methods of detection in slope retaining structure were analyzed.According to the above research, the strategies of risk assessment standards for slope retaining structures were explored.Based on others’ research achievements, the advantages and limitations of risk assessment index weighting methods and risk assessment models commonly used in engineering are analyzed so as to adopt the appropriate risk assessment methods. Finally, based on all the above research,a new risk assessment system of slope retaining structures was established. The effectiveness of the new risk assessment system was verified by the analysis of a specific case.Based on the above research, the risk factors of slope retaining structures are obtained. Moreover, this thesis puts forward clear requirements for the data collection after drilling detection. In the aspect of Ground Penetrating Radar, the detection schemes of slope retaining structures are formulated. The effectiveness of Ground Penetrating Radar detection is analyzed. The methods of Ground Penetrating Radar image processing and disease identification are also elaborated. In the aspect of risk assessment standards,a more effective risk assessment standard of slope retaining structures is established. In the aspect of risk assessment methods, this thesis proposes to use Analytic Hierarchy Process to calculate the fixed weight of each assessment index.Penalty-Incentive Variable Weight theory is used to change the fixed weight.Set Pair Analysis is used to assess the safety of slope retaining structures. Finally, based on a specific case, the process of risk assessment of slope retaining structures based on Set Pair Analysis of variable weight is elaborated.According to the results of five-element connection number, the risk level and safety status of the slope retaining structure are determined. The results are consistent with the truth and the opinions of experts, which means that the practicability of this assessment system is proved.
