Research On The Design Of Western Medical Products Since The 17th Century

COVID-19 broke out in early 2020 and quickly spread to the whole world in a short time,which fundamentally changed the global political and economic structure.The harm and impact of COVID-19 has attracted people’s attention to the whole medical and health system.People began to review the development history of epidemic diseases,and caused extensive discussion and practice of anti epidemic products from the origin,function and form in the design circle.In this context,the study attempts to analyze the medical,historical,humanistic and social background of the birth of medical products from the perspective of anthropology.From the perspective of design thinking and method,the medical products in the late stage of western handicraft industry（1600-1760）,steam age（1760-1850）,electrical age（1850-1900）and information age（1900-present）are collected,summarized and sorted out.The structure,material,process and function of medical products in each period are analyzed,and the iterative evolution of these products in different periods was explored.Finally,the common medical products involved in anti-epidemic activities were analyzed emphatically,and the epidemic prevention experience and design wisdom contained therein are summarized,so as to provide some literature references and experience summaries for modern medical product design.The thesis is divided into eight chapters to demonstrate.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly points out the research significance,analysis of the current situation at home and abroad,research methods,as well as the research framework and innovation.The second chapter is about medical products in early Western medicine,which not only explains the background of the development of western medical products,but also lays the foundation for the variability correlation analysis of medical products since the 17th century.The third chapter is about the medical products in the later period of western handicraft industry（1600-1760）.It points out that under the influence of social change and cultural movement,medical products gradually become scientific and precise.Taking the compound microscope,which developed rapidly in this period,as an example,this paper analyzes its iteration and the beneficial impact of the development of science and technology on the design and development of medical products from the perspectives of function,shape,human-computer interaction and production technology.The fourth chapter is medical products in the age of steam（1760-1850）,analyzing the development of machine production to manual production in the design of medical products under the influence of the first industrial revolution.Taking narcotics-related products as an example,this paper analyzes its iteration and the advantages of machine production from the aspects of function,appearance,man-machine interaction and production technology.The fifth chapter is the medical products in the electrical age（1850-1900）.It discusses the changes in the iterative process of medical product design and the degree of industrialization under the influence of the second industrial revolution.Taking stethoscope as an example,this paper analyzes its iteration and design characteristics,and summarizes the challenges and opportunities of medical product design in this period.The sixth chapter is the medical products in the information age（1900-present）,analyzing the changes of medical products in the iterative process under the influence of the third industrial revolution and the degree of informatization development.Taking the prosthetic products in different periods as an example,the iteration situation is analyzed.To explore the beneficial influence of new materials and technologies on medical products in the information age.The seventh chapter is mainly analyzes the iterative development of common medical products involved in anti-epidemic activities,such as disinfection tools,masks,protective clothing,syringes,etc.Explore the iterative evolution of these products in different periods,analyze and summarize their design characteristics and design wisdom.
