With the increasing number of international engineering projects contracted by Chinese enterprises, these engineering projects have been carried out in large numbers in countries along the "Belt and Road".Although the level of safety management technology of Chinese companies is in a stage of rapid development,as the number of overseas projects continues to increase, safety accidents are still a major threat.Overseas safety accidents not only threaten the lives of Chinese employees and local employees, but also affect the image of Chinese companies overseas. When major safety accidents occur, they may even have a negative impact on my country’s international relations. As the proportion of localized labor in overseas international projects continues to increase, due to cultural differences, local employees are different from Chinese employees in language, habits, and thinking styles, resulting in misunderstandings, and delays in communication. This may cause safety hazards, thereby increasing safety risks. Therefore,it is extremely important to understand the impact of cultural differences on safety performance. However, there are few studies on safety performance from the cross-cultural perspective in the existing domestic literature, and there are fewer research results on the cross-cultural awareness of subordinate employees. Most of them are still studied from the perspective of domestic safety management, resulting in the fact that crosscultural factors are often ignored in the management of safety performance, which is difficult to ensure the comprehensiveness of safety influencing factors of multinational projects. In view of this, this paper discusses the cross-cultural factors in the influencing factors of safety performance of multinational large-scale engineering projects from the cross-cultural perspective of specific countries, hoping to be helpful to improve the safety management level of international projects. This paper studies the impact of cross-cultural factors on the safety performance of Chinese contractor employees in Bangladesh.Firstly,it combs the previous relevant literature. Then it analyzes the safety violation of project B,puts forward the measures to improve the safety performance, and then interviews with experts to verify the effectiveness of these measures.According to the analysis of safety violations and the cross-cultural related factors in the interview,a questionnaire was designed to investigate the related problems of employees in Bangladesh. The survey data were analyzed by linear regression using SPSS and other software.Based on expert interviews and questionnaire analysis, the following conclusions are drawn:Narrowing the awareness of cultural differences has a significant positive impact on improving the safety performance of local employees;Chinese learning autonomy can promote the reduction of the positive impact of cultural difference consciousness on safety performance. In addition, according to the conclusion of safety violation analysis and interview of project B,three measures to reduce cultural differences are put forward:increasing translation(reducing language differences)has a positive impact on safety performance;Simulation experience and video demonstration have a positive impact on safety performance;Pictorial safety signs have a positive impact on safety performance.
