| The shift in the behavior of college groups has put forward new demands on campus public space.Taking Huazhong University of Science and Technology as an example, this paper investigates the dominant behaviors of college groups and the current situation of campus public space use.The problems between the two are found and targeted creation strategies are proposed.First, the university groups are divided into student groups and other groups according to their size and roles. The dominant behavior of the student group has a great influence on the campus public space, and it is necessary to conduct graded research on them to find out the specific needs of the dominant behavior for the space.Other groups include faculty, staff and their families, whose influence on campus public space is reflected in the conflicts arising from sharing the campus with the student group.Three rounds of graded research were conducted on the student group. The first round is the dominant behavior research, which classifies the behavior of the student group into study behavior, life essential behavior, other behavior and travel behavior.Twenty-one dominant behaviors were selected through questionnaires and descriptive analysis. The second round of behavior-space research was conducted to classify the campus public space into learning space, living space, sports space, other space and travel space based on the behavior classification combined with functional zoning. The dominant behaviors-spaces were screened out through questionnaires and descriptive analysis.Correlation analysis was applied to find out the characteristics of students’ choices of campus public spaces. The third round is the survey on the current situation of space, which is conducted on site from three perspectives of accessibility, space design and management to find out the problems in the current situation of space use.Research on the use of campus public space was conducted for other groups.Through on-site investigation, interviews and data collection,we found out the contradictions in their shared use of campus public space with student groups. It was found that campus public space has insufficient space capacity, new behavioral needs are not met, functional layout accessibility is insufficient, environment and equipment need to be updated and upgraded, and road system is not adapted to traffic needs. There are problems of behavioral demands across the boundary and secondary traffic pressure between the campus and the city. Finally, the principles of human-centered,behavior change adaptation, intensive design, mutual coordination of functional layout and synergistic development with the city are summarized and targeted strategies for the creation of campus public space are proposed. |
