In the past 40 years of reform and opening up,China has been promoting the process of urbanization at a high speed.The trend of urban economic development is good,and the urban population is increasing.However,the population concentration brought by the high degree of urbanization needs to accommodate a large number of urban population under the limited land resources,which makes the city in a high-density state in terms of population and construction.The serious shortage of construction land and the high density of surrounding environment restrict the development of educational buildings.At the same time,the reform of education system also affects the construction of primary school campus.In recent years,quality education is gradually carried out by the state,and the education concept and teaching mode of primary and secondary schools have been improved.The previous campus architectural design has been unable to meet the current teaching needs of quality education.Therefore,how to realize the efficient use of land in the high-density environment of the city,and create the architectural space that can not only meet the basic teaching needs,but also adapt to the changing education concept and education mode is a challenge to the architectural design of urban primary schools.Based on the investigation of primary school campuses in high-density areas in Wuhan,the main contradiction of primary school design in high-density environment is that the conventional design methods can not meet the corresponding functional requirements under the tense land use conditions.Through the investigation and analysis of the use of the campus,we find that there are some problems in the design of high-density primary schools,such as the lack of overall planning,single plane organization,lack of interest in closed space and chaotic construction system.In view of the serious lack of campus function caused by the shortage of land in high-density environment,this paper puts forward the strategy of adaptive design of primary school buildings,explores the change potential of primary school building space,and uses the flexibility,complexity and diversity of space to deal with the problem of insufficient campus function space.Specifically from the overall layout of the building,building plane layout,building space construction and construction system four levels to discuss the primary school building adaptive design strategy.Finally,combined with the actual case of the sixth primary school in Tanghe County,Nanyang City,Henan Province,the architectural design project is put into practice,and the adaptive design strategy is used to provide some ideas for solving the problems existing in the architectural design of primary schools in high-density environment,hoping to create a good architectural space for the growth of physical and mental health of primary school students.
