With the advancement of the national rural revitalization strategy, the construction of rural areas has been carried out in full swing. As the main content of rural construction, the design and transformation of rural public space visual landscape plays a vital role in improving ecological environment, displaying village culture and enhancing tourist experience.Especially for rural areas in China that want to develop tourism,it is very important for potential rural tourists to participate in the visual landscape design of rural public space and understand their preferences and needs. However, because tourists themselves have no natural interest in rural planning and are too dispersed,it is difficult to achieve widespread participation. The development of digital technology and the popularization of the Internet have facilitated the public’s access to information and participation in decision-making."Gamification" has been used successfully in many areas as a way to increase user engagement. Therefore, this study builds a gamification platform of participatory design based on HTML5 technology, carries out the participatory design process of the visual landscape of rural public space on the mobile terminal, and enhances the enthusiasm and effect of public participation through the use of relevant elements of game design.Through reading domestic and foreign literature, this study combs the current related research on visual landscape and the main theories and methods of participatory design.Combined with the current development trend, this study puts forward the idea of introducing gamification method into the tourist participation in the visual landscape design of rural public space.Based on the study of relevant theories and application cases of "Gamification",this paper explores the application path of "Gamification" in participatory design of visual landscape of rural public space from four aspects: participation goals and tasks, mechanisms, dynamic and aesthetic. To test the game method to the public participation in the incentive effect, this study in order to rural visual landscape beauty degree of tourists preference evaluation as an example to carry out the preliminary experiment.By contrast, preliminary experiment found that the game method to obtain the higher satisfaction with the public, and the answer rate is as high as 89%,1.6 times that of the traditional questionnaire, gaming method was verified the feasibility of the application in the public participation. On the basis of the preliminary experiment, this study took the visual landscape design of public space in Bamou Village,Baise City,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as an example to carry out the gamification platform application practice of participatory design.Relevant design elements are visualized, and participatory design rules are formulated based on actual planning and design scenarios. An interesting interface with interactive functions and timely feedback is set to guide the public to complete the design in the way of "stickers" and express their demands.Compared with the traditional opinion collection, the gamification platform of this study has enhanced the enthusiasm of public participation, expanded the scope of data collection, and enhanced the convenience and intuitiveness of data collection. In addition, the participatory design method of this study provides a more realistic participation scenario for the public.By setting constraints such as reconstruction budget, the public is encouraged to think rationally in the process of participation, which ensures the quality of public participation to a certain extent. The gamification method applied to the participatory design of the visual landscape of rural public space in this study has achieved extensive and deep public participation, which is expected to provide new ideas and references for the innovation of modes and methods of public participation.
