The Research Of Conversation And Adaptive Reuse Of Modern Architecture In Hong Kong

At the end of the 20th century,modern buildings in Hong Kong were facing the threaten of demolition due to the rapid development of the city.The society began to notice that it is important to protect the modern buildings.By the early 21 st century,it became an important issue in Hong Kong’s heritage conservation.In order to realize the sustainable development of the social environment,it is necessary for us to study the conservation and adaptive reuse for Hong Kong’s modern heritage.At present,there are several successful adaptive reuse cases in Hong Kong.This thesis studies Hong Kong’s conservation methods for modern buildings through an interpretation of Hong Kong’s heritage conservation system and the adaptive reuse of modern building practices,and hopes to draw the lessons of heritage conservation for China.Firstly,through the research of the development and the evolution of modern architecture in Hong Kong,it proposes that the characteristics of modern architecture are the expansion in scale and the variety of design concept.Secondly,it studies the development of Hong Kong’s heritage conservation system under the social and cultural background of Hong Kong.After that,it points out the advantages of Hong Kong’s heritage conservation system in the "one country,two systems".Then,it explains how to make good use of public resources and respect for private historic buildings and put forward modern building conservation strategies.Thirdly,the article summarizes the value of modern buildings base on the results of Assessment of historic buildings system in Hong Kong and establish the focal point of modern building conservation work.After,it discusses the case of adaptive reuse of Hong Kong modern buildings and point out the conservation principles and guideline with the balance between conservation and regulations.Finally,the article examines two cases of modern buildings and discusses the specific adaptive works,conservation policy,value assessment,work plans,and public awareness popularization.
