Study Of Lin Zhaozhang’s Architectural Practices Career

Lin Zhaozhang is one of the famous Lingnan architects.In his nearly 60 years of architectural career,he focused on the Pearl River Delta and surrounding towns,and created a variety of architectural works with great influence.Lin Zhaozhang served as deputy director and chief engineer of Guangzhou Planning Bureau for ten years.He also made great achievements in urban planning management and urban design,and played an important role in the modernization of Lingnan architecture.At present,academic groups have carried out in-depth research on Lingnan architects such as Xia Changshi and Mo Bozhi,but they still pay little attention to Mr.Lin Zhaozhang’s architectural works and his creative process.Taking Lin Zhaozhang’s creation process as the research object,this paper attempts to clarify the regional,cultural and historical background of his creation in each stage,explore the main characteristics of his typical works in each stage,and summarize Lin Zhaozhang’s architectural creation technology concept,era concept and art concept,so as to enrich the research on Lingnan individual architects and deepen the understanding of Lingnan architectural creation thought.Based on the type characteristics and time logic of Lin Zhaozhang’s main architectural creation works,this paper divides his architectural creation process into three stages: the transition stage from small volume group to high-rise building(1964-1983),the creation stage focusing on the construction of urban landmark buildings(1984-2000),and the development stage of Modern Lingnan architectural culture(2001 to now),Behind it lies the transition from relatively closed to open,from strict control to free market,and then to cultural self-confidence.Using the research method of combining architectural history and sociology,through collecting data and field research,analyzing typical works,interviewing relevant architects,understanding the background of the times and the relationship between social organizations,summarizing the driving force of architectural creation,exploring the architectural creation characteristics and representative concepts of Lin Zhaozhang at all stages of his architectural creation process.As an important member of Lingnan architecture school,Lin Zhaozhang has made great contributions in promoting regional architecture creation practice,improving urban living environment,promoting Lingnan architecture education and promoting Lingnan culture.Lin Zhaozhang’s architectural career,which is promoted by the combination of architectural creation practice,design management and cultural research,is a reference for the current professional development of architects.Research on Lin Zhaozhang’s architectural creation process is one of the sub topics of National Natural Science Foundation’s research on the realistic design theory and development of Lingnan architectural school.It is a beneficial supplement to the research on Lingnan architects and Lingnan architectural creation.It can broaden the field of vision,enrich Lingnan architectural design theory,Lingnan architectural history theory and Lingnan architectural aesthetics theory.On this basis,this paper attempts to reveal the positive significance of Lin Zhaozhang’s architectural creation concept for promoting Lingnan architectural culture,promoting the construction of cultural confidence,and providing reference and guidance for the future Lingnan architectural creation practice,which has great theoretical and practical value.
