Abstract/Summary:
The acceleration of life pace in modern cities and the increase of work pressure have led to life with sedentary, less movement and nervous state. However, the lack of public green space after the high-density urban construction has further reduced the opportunities for the citizens to have activities in outdoor green space, which has negative impact on the public health. How to reasonably construct urban environment, realize active intervention on public behavior habit and lifestyle,as well as leading them to better integrate into green space and carry out outdoor activities,so as to improve health level of population,it is a common concern in many fields including architecture, urban and rural planning, landscape architecture and environmental psychology. In the context of current new urbanization transition from "incremental development" to "stock optimization",as a form of green space, small public green space can be flexibly embedded in urban interstitial space and closely connected with residents’ daily lives, whose potential for guiding healthy activities and improving health level cannot be ignored. At present, the construction of small public green space in many cities in China has been carried out in an orderly manner, but the relevant discussions on the small-scale green space as the research object are still insufficient.Under such background, this paper takes the construction environment of small public green space as research object to reveal its internal mechanism that affects the population health.Thirty-five small public green space in the old city of Nanjing are taken as research samples to carry out quantitative evaluation and correlation analysis of its built environment and health behaviors,so as to put forward health-oriented optimization strategies for the design of small public green space.First of all, this paper sorts out and summarizes the related research on the impact of green space and small public green space on population health, constructs a theoretical model, and then summarizes the ways in which small public green land can promote the population health, mainly including: guiding the public to contact green space, carrying out physical activities and participating in social interactions. In addition, the quantitative evaluation index system of this research is established,so as to clearly take the construction environment characteristics of small public green space as the influencing factors while taking the healthy behavior characteristics as the external representation.Among them, the construction environment characteristics include a total of 14 elements in the location layout level and functional space level, while the health behavior characteristics include the comprehensive health behavior and a total of 14 evaluation indicators including the category, time period and population health behavior category.Secondly,in the empirical research, field observation survey and Arc GIS analysis were adopted to collect original data, based on which the above indicators were conducted quantitative evaluation,so as to further analyze and summarize the current characteristics of the construction environment and health behavior of small public green space in the old city of Nanjing.Thirdly, the ridge regression analysis method was applied to establish a regression model to comprehensively explore the internal correlation between the built-up environmental elements with the comprehensive and multi-characteristic health behaviors of the macro and meso-micro levels of small public green space. The influence coefficients of each element in multiple health behavior models were obtained,so as to carry out classification according to their comprehensiveness, positive and negative effects, and strength. The analysis results of model demonstrate that the effects of different factors on the health behavior of residents in distinctive levels of small public green space, such as location layout, space configuration, environmental interface and functional facilities are significantly different.Among which, the small public green space with complete functional facilities has the most significant effect for improving health behavior, followed by reasonable space configuration and environmental interface form, however, the effect of location layout characteristics is relatively deficient. Finally, the hierarchical design optimization strategies for small public green space for guiding the health behavior of various types, all time periods and multiple groups are proposed from the above four levels. On this basis, the innovation and shortcomings of this research are expounded,so as to carry out further prospect for the future deepening and development.
