The Preliminary Study Of The History Of Urban Development Of The Italian Concession In Tientsin(1901-1945)

The paper selects the Tianjin Italian Concession as the object of study,and regards it as an organic whole,as a city.The study was limited between the Italian military occupation in 1901 and the official resumption of the concession in 1945.The study attempts to restore the history of the urban development of the Tianjin Italian Concession through the integration and interpretation of the surviving historical archives in Italy related to Italian Concession in Italy.On this basis,the study also attempts to make a preliminary discussion on the difficult twists and turns and the motivations behind.The paper is divided into six chapters.The first chapter clarifies the purpose and significance of the study,and highlights the distribution and content classification of the surviving historical archives in Italy related to Italian Concession in Italy.The second chapter identifies several important nodes and related historical events related to the delineation and retrocession of Tianjin Italian concession.The third chapter introduces the management institutions,focusing on clarifying the evolution of the administrative agencies of the Italian Concession.The fourth chapter clarifies the whole process of pre-development preparation works consisting of the early construction plans,the development strategies and the methods of land sales.The fifth chapter introduces public utilities and the municipal accessory facilities in the Italian Concession and summarizes their characteristics.They can be divided into seven aspects as followed,the public infrastructures,public traffic system,environmental sanitation services,city image constrctions,medical and education resources,sports and recreations and the Italian cultural output.The sixth and last chapter of the paper is the summary of the whole study.It summarizes and analyzes the three development stages of the Tianjin Italian concession,and points out the urban positioning of it as a high-quality residential area.By integrating and interpreting the surviving historical archives in Italy related to Italian Concession in Italy,the author basically build the framework of the history of the urban development of the Italian Concession in Tianjin.On this basis,going a step further to deeper understand the comprehensive considerations of national interests,concession interests,current situation and emergencies throughout the decision-making process of Italian government and Italian officials helps to fill more details into the framework and gradually restores the history of urban development of the Italian Concession in Tianjin.Above all,the study shows that the Italian Concession authorities finally built the Italian Concession into a systematical developing high-quality residential area that equips with advanced infrastructure and complete municipal facilities,superior urban environment and rich material life through scientific urban planning,overall consideration and gradual improvement.
