Research On The Interpretation And Presentation Of Layering Spaces Around The Xi’an City Wall Area

Xi’an has a history of more than 6,000 years of civilization,more than 3,000 years of urban construction history,and more than 1,000 years of capital construction history.It is one of the first batch of historical and cultural cities in the country.It used to be the center of Chinese politics,economy,and culture,and has witnessed the rise and fall of dozens of dynasties.The Xi’an City Wall was built as the imperial city during the Sui and Tang Dynasties,then used from the Five Dynasties to the Yuan Dynasty,expanded during the Ming Dynasty,and repaired several times in the 20th century to form a public space around the wall,such as the City Ring Park and the Shuncheng Alley.Xi’an City Wall,Shuncheng Alley and Ring City Park together form the contemporary area around the Xi’an City Wall.The Xi’an City Wall and its surrounding area are the most characteristic open space in Xi’an,witnessing the urban development of many historical periods from the Sui Dynasty to the present.However,apart from the Xi’an City Wall itself,the public cannot feel more information accumulated in the space under the era from it.The use of its huge-scale open space to realize effective information dissemination to the public is a new topic for the protection of the historical and cultural city of Xi’an,and it is also a topic of great significance.Therefore,how to comprehensively and effectively use the relevant theories and methods of cultural heritage interpretation and presentation,relying on the surrounding area of Xi’an city wall to build the layering spaces interpretation and presentation system,and realize the real,effective expression and reproduction of the layering spaces superimposed by multiple times.This study takes the area around the Xi’an City Wall as the research object,and addresses the problems of difficulty in capturing the layering spaces,lack of "physical" media for interpretation and presentation,and poor public understanding,etc.Based on literature research,this study is conducted by combining field research and questionnaire survey.The first part clarifies the concepts of layering spaces,interpretation and presentation,and summarizing the relevant theoretical research on cultural heritage interpretation and presentation and communication.The second part identifies and classifies layering spaces by means of historical maps,literature reading and archaeological data collection from the Sui and Tang dynasties to the Republic of China,and determines the objects of layering spaces interpretation and presentation.In the third part,the spatial positioning of layering spaces is conducted through the study of ancient Chinese urban construction modalities.Classify the layering spaces according to the basic pattern of layering,and determine the focus of interpretation and presentation.The spatial form of layering spaces is analyzed from the diachronic and synchronic,and the content of interpretation and presentation of layering spaces is clarified.The fourth part analyzes the current situation of layering spaces,Identity status and the public understanding survey by means of field research and questionnaires,and studies and summarizes the main problems and influencing factors of the interpretation and presentation system of layering spaces along the Xi’an Ring Wall.Based on the above research,the fifth part analyzes the technical route of the interpretation and presentation of the layering spaces,combines the interpretation and presentation system of layering spaces with urban design,and proposes a menu and selection process for layered space interpretation and display methods composed of signage,landscape elements,buildings and auxiliary facilities.Finally,the implementation route for the interpretation and presentation of layering spaces is proposed,and the map overlay method is used according to the research process to propose the layering spaces interpretation and presentation area division and layout plan,which is the specific of the layering spaces interpretation and presentation in the surrounding area of Xi’an city wall.Lay the foundation for implementation.This article aims at the chaotic status of signs around the city walls of Xi’an,and makes the historical development process of urban space identifiable and interpretable by using the continuity of time and the correlation of space to sort out the layering spaces,and "comprehensive" the space that has lost its original meaning due to urban development.It is an important guideline for the protection of Xi’an’s historical and cultural cities and the revitalization and utilization of cultural heritage.
