Study On The Plaque Culture In Langzhong Of Si’chuan Province

Plaque is the most representative and historical Chinese traditional decoration in architectures.The flourish underlying meanings it contained can be represented by multiple characters,such as material,calligraphy,content,and adornment.The investigation of traditional plaque,to some extent,can reveal the progress of art development and the taste of esthetic.Also,it helps us to perfect the understanding of specific historical background.Hence,research of this issue is very meaningful at either the historical or artistic aspect.The expression of plaque may perform a strongly regional culture characteristic because it is strongly affected by the local culture and history.The city named Langzhong,located in Sichuan Province,breeds a special culture attributed to its incomparable landform since the ancient time.The study of plaques in Langzhong can not only supplement the investigation of palque culture but also further improve the knowledge of local history and culture development.Recently,although plenty of investigation were conducted to explore the plaque culture in China,various types of plaques contained in the previous work leading to a insufficient investigation on the reflection of local culture by plaque.Meanwhile,there is still a lack of investigation on the culture value of plaque.By utilizing multiple research methods,this paper conducted a set of investigation on the underlying culture content of plaques.The major findings are summarized as followings:1)Based on the field research,this paper collected a large quantity of literature and photography in relation to the plaques and then classify them into three different types.By analyzing the local history background and expression(such as content,calligraphy,shape,and decoration,etc.)of several samples,the characteristics of plaques in Langzhong were revealed.2)By combing the local history background with its culture development,the culture of San’guo,Imperial examination,and religion was selected to investigate the way of how the plaques perform these culture characteristics and what culture meaning was underlaid.3)Five values of plaques,involving the culture value,history value,social value,artistic value,and scientific value,were successively analyzed and discussed.Based on typical sample analysis,the expression of different values was explored.The present investigation of plaque culture in Langzhong city can not only enrich the current research progress but also improve the understanding of the local history and culture development.Moreover,it offers an example of exploration on inheritance of the plaque culture from a modernized aspect,which significantly supports the spread of Chinese culture.
