| The thesis focuses on traditional cosmetics organizers in ancient China.With the combination of the two disciplines,design and archaeology,this article collects the existing Chinese cosmetics cases and classifies under the standards of structure,materials,decoration for finding the design evolution and digging out design thoughts embedded within this traditional product.The first thing we need to do is to understand what is makeup organizers.And in the context of history,the article traces how it was created in the very beginning.Makeup organizers have been a part of our daily lives since ancient times.They have been used for placing cosmetics,combs or jewelry.Although the ways that cosmetics cases are made have evolved over time,whether painted in lacquer,caved in wood,the birth of cosmetics cases is correlated with the need for makeup among upper-class people in ancient China.As its name shows,this product is designed for placing various kinds of cosmetics.In the first part,the article uses the archaeological research method,making a classification of cosmetic boxes during different periods in ancient China.For the purpose of finding out the rules of changing underneath the evolution.Secondly,the essay begins with the design analysis of traditional makeup organizers,trying to summarizing how did makeup organizers build a better relationship among human,object and environment.The iteration of people’s demands reflects on the design of products,such as structure,shapes,materials,decoration,and creative thoughts hidden in the process of creating.The external motivation is reflected in the influence of social and historical factors on the meaning of the life etiquette and decorative patterns of the makeup.For ancient women,makeup is not only a living tool but also a dowry asset.Finally,this article summarizes the design ideas and creative wisdom carried by the ancient makeup organizers.Traditional fare ware is the epitome of society and civilization.What’s more,it is where the creative thoughts are condensed in the visible form.The study of design on Chinese traditional makeup organizers provides us later graphic designers with successful experience and inspiring design methods. |
