Water is an indispensable natural resource in the process of human survival and development. For the ancient Juyan oasis located in the arid area of northwest China, the water conservancy system and its spatial evolution are related to the survival of the entire ancient oasis. Therefore,on the basis of previous studies, this paper uses multi-source remote sensing data,GIS and other tools to reconstruct the spatial pattern of the water conservancy system in the ancient Juyan Oasis in the historical period and study its evolution process.Attempt to reveal the historical period of the region’s water use patterns and the reasons for the evolution of the relationship between man and land. This article mainly studies and discusses the following two aspects:First, select multi-source remote sensing images as the data source to map the distribution of the water conservancy system in the historical period of Gujuyan Oasis, and reconstruct the spatial pattern of the water conservancy system in the historical period. The second is a comprehensive analysis of historical documents, remote sensing image data, and archaeological survey data published at home and abroad.Based on this, combined with field investigations, the temporal and spatial evolution of the water conservancy system in the ancient Juyan Oasis during the historical period is analyzed. The paper reached the following conclusions:1.The Gujuyan Oasis area has inherent advantages in natural environment. The Gujuyan Oasis is located at the end of the Heihe River. It relies on the melting water of snow and ice in the Qilian Mountains. The melted water flows to the low-lying oasis area to form a delta, which is the prerequisite for the long-term survival and development of human beings in the Gujuyan Oasis. At the same time,in order to adapt to the environment, the ancestors of Gujuyan Oasis continued to transform the environment, and a grand and exquisite water conservancy irrigation system came into being.2.Using multi-source remote sensing images to reconstruct the spatial pattern of the water conservancy system in the Gujuyan Oasis area, and determine the refined spatial distribution of water conservancy facilities in the Gujuyan Oasis historical period, which is a material evidence of the Gujuyan Oasis relying on water conservancy development in the historical period.3.Using geographic information system(GIS)digital terrain analysis, proximity distance analysis, nuclear density analysis and other functions to conduct spatial analysis on ancient ruins and water conservancy facilities in the Gujuyan Oasis area,it is found that most of the ancient ruins in this area are close to water sources. And according to different altitudes, different water control and water use modes are selected.According to the distribution of ancient ruins and the density relationship of the water conservancy system,it is preliminarily determined that there are three ancient settlement ruins in this area, forming a new understanding of the Juyan ruins as a whole.4.From the analysis of the spatial distribution pattern and the evolution of the center of gravity of the water conservancy system in the ancient Juyan Oasis,it is found that the water conservancy system in the Han Dynasty was mainly distributed in the end areas of the ancient oasis(Juyan City,Yabulai City,Wendu Riborige City),Chagan Borige City),and the water conservancy systems in the Xixia,Mongolian and Yuan dynasties were mainly distributed in the central and southern regions of the ancient oasis(Heicheng,Green City, and Erta East City). It can be seen that the spatial distribution of the water conservancy system inside the ancient oasis is constantly changing with the development of human activities and the change of the natural environment, and the spatial distribution of human activities also evolves with the spatial evolution of the water conservancy system. Many factors such as nature and humanities have led to the spatial evolution of the water conservancy system.Any of these factors does not exist in isolation, but is the result of mutual restraint and mutual influence. In short, the glorious history of the Gujuyan Oasis in the historical period is inseparable from its grand water conservancy system, but the spatial evolution of its water conservancy system also affects the survival of the entire Gujuyan Oasis.
