Panel Regression Research On The Impact Of Provincial Energy Consumption On Haze Pollution

Abstract/Summary:
In recent years,environmental issues have been affecting the international people’s livelihood.With the rapid development of China’s economy,environmental pollution,especially smog,is particularly prominent.Smog control has also become one of the research focuses at home and abroad.In order to effectively control smog pollution,the "Three-Year Action Plan for Winning the Blue Sky Defense" and the "Guiding Opinions on Coordinating and Strengthening Work Related to Climate Change and Ecological Environmental Protection" were released by the State Council In July 2018 and by the Ministry of Ecology in January 2021,respectively.Studies showed that,large-scale and low-efficiency energy consumption has always been an important factor in causing haze pollution.To clarify the spatial impacts of energy consumption on haze pollution,focusing on energy consumption,a comprehensive evaluation system with energy consumption scale,energy consumption quality,and energy consumption structure as the main content was built.The main research work of this paper is as follows:(1)Research on the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics and evolution of China’s haze pollution.Investigating the temporal and spatial characteristics and evolution of smog across the provinces,it was found that there exhibits regional heterogeneity in smog pollution.On the whole,the concentration of smog in the central,eastern,western,and northeastern regions decreased sequentially.Specific to the provinces and cities,the smog pollution was the most serious in Tianjin,followed by Shandong Province,and Hainan Province had the lowest PM2.5concentration.(2)Research on the impact mechanism of smog in China.Using panel data from30 provinces and cities from 2008 to 2017 as a sample,a regression model was constructed.The results showed that the scale of energy consumption was positively correlated with haze pollution,and the total energy consumption,total households,and private car ownership increased in the scale of energy consumption.Both will increase haze pollution.The quality of energy consumption was negatively correlated with smog pollution.The quality of energy consumption was determined by fixed investment in energy production and processing,and its growth was conducive to reducing smog.The structure of energy consumption was negatively correlated with haze pollution,and the increase in the proportion of the added value of the secondary industry in the regional GDP will aggravate haze pollution.Among the control variables,household consumption expenditure had an inhibitory effect on smog.Compared with the global perspective,China’s smog was more serious.High-polluting areas mainly included the central and eastern regions,and there existed regional heterogeneity in the factors affecting smog pollution.Based on the empirical research results of this article,it is helpful to enrich the relevant theories of regional environmental governance and put forward feasible smog control countermeasures for the actual situation of regional environmental economic development and energy endowment.
