Although the intensity of the noise does not exceed that of the engine itself, its frequency characteristics and regularity are easily perceived by the driver, affecting the passenger experience. The paper investigates the gear whistling problem of a passenger car wet dual-clutch automatic transmission, analyzes the causes of transmission whistling through real-vehicle testing, and reduces the loudness of the whistling noise using the method of reducing the active excitation of the transmission drive gear.Firstly, the NVH test of the transmission assembly was conducted to clarify the whistling condition, and the single-item whistling test was conducted on the NVH assembly frame of the transmission to confirm that the whistling is caused by the transfer error of the specific gear pair during the meshing process due to the design and manufacturing deviations. For the whistling problem caused by design deviations, the transmission gear train was modeled and verified by spot experiments using KISSsoft software, and a suitable modification scheme was calculated using the dynamic model to reduce the whistling noise. For the whistling problem caused by manufacturing errors, the key dimensional parameters that cause whistling are analyzed by the gear detection data, the gear detection limits are set to prevent the outflow, and finally the whistling problem is solved by optimizing the gear processing parameters. Finally, the whistling problem was solved by optimizing the gear processing parameters, and then reassembling the vehicle with the modified and optimized gears and conducting NVH experiments. The paper provides a relatively complete analysis of the reduction of gear whistling in passenger car wet DCTs and proposes a feasible improvement solution.
