Body chassis frame construction is with separate frame,it will not only bear gravity load from itself and load-carrying components,but also will bear the load from road and engine.So when design a frame,it must be with enough rigidity and strength.Besides the space and installation location of each part should also be considered.In this paper,the basic characteristics of the frame is analyzed,and the intensive study of the stiffness,strength and vibration characteristics of the frame is studied intensively by CAE technique.The main research content is as below:It takes the frame of Honda energy saving race car as the research object.According to the design requirements from official steering committee,firstly designing a geometric model of the race car with a rational frame spatial layout by using 3D modeling software.Secondly,establishing a finite element model of the energy saving race car frame by using ANSYS Workbench software,then the stress,deformation and modal properties of the frame under various working conditions is obtained through the process of parameter setting and load application.By analyzing,it found that the frame strength is surplus,even though the structural performance of the original frame design meets the design standard.Finally using topological optimization method to optimize the original frame structure.The frame was redesigned according to the results of topological optimization.Then a best scheme of optimized frame structure and optimized size of race car was attained through studying the influence of thickness of each part of the new frame on the weight,maximum stress and maximum deformation of the frame by sensitivity analysis.At last the light weight design of race car was realized.By comparing and optimizing each performance parameter of original energy saving race car frame structure and new energy saving race car frame structure,it makes the new frame structure and size to be the best under the premise of use requirements.This research provides scientific theoretical foundations for the frame design.
