Seismic vulnerability describes the relationship between the seismic intensity and the economic loss of buildings, and provides the basis for the evaluation of seismic economic loss in earthquake catastrophe risk models. This thesis investigates the seismic vulnerability of typical buildings with different functions and structural systems in China, with a special focuse on the influences of damage distribution and nonstructural damage on the seismic vulnerability of the buildings. The main contribution of this thesis is summarized as follows.1)Facing the needs of seismic catastrophe risk models, performance models of six typical buildings were established by considering building using functions, building height and structural system as the main parameters. The six typical buildings are(a)a multi-story commercial building of reinforced concrete frame structure;(b)a multi-story school building of reinforced concrete frame structure;(c)a multi-storey commercial building of steel frame structure;(d)a multi-story residential building of brick-concrete structure;(e)a high-rise residential building of reinforced concrete shear wall structure and(f)a high-rise office building of reinforced concrete frame-shear wall structure. These buildings are all meet the standard design of China.2)Using probability-based earthquake economic loss assessment method, established seismic vulnerability models of the above-mentioned six types of typical buildings, and investigated the impact of different floor loss distributions and nonstructural losses on the vulnerability model in the building. The results show that except for buildings with brick-concrete structures, the vulnerability of other types of typical buildings under moderate and small earthquakes is mainly controlled by non-structural losses. As the intensity of ground motion increases, structural damage becomes more serious, and the influence of structural damage on loss continues to increase;by comprehensively considering the seismic damage characteristics of different types of components, the height distribution of structural responses on different floors, and the possibility of irreparable overall building Due to the influence of other factors, the economic loss when the building is still repairable is much smaller than the current normative method in my country, which provides a theoretical basis for solving the problem of overestimating the economic loss when the building is still repairable by the current direct economic loss assessment method in my country.3)The influence of factors such as the location of the building, its use function, structural system, building height, and ground motion intensity indicators on the overall seismic vulnerability of the building was investigated. The results show that the location of the building and its use function have no significant impact on the overall seismic vulnerability of the building. The structural system and building height have a significant impact on the overall vulnerability of the buildings.4)A simplified method of building vulnerability analysis is proposed. The results show that the possibility of irreparable overall building cannot be ignored in the simplified method;for the four reinforced concrete structure buildings among the six typical buildings in this paper, the vulnerebility curves of the the simplified method and refined methods are relatively close;but for steel frame structures and masonry structures, the vulnerebility curves given by the two methods are significantly different.
