In recent years,various resource and environmental problems have been aggravated,spreading from regions to the world,from cities to rural areas,and hindering the coordinated development of circular economy and social environment.Mankind has begun to continuously explore new sustainable development methods.In the field of construction,the research on the recycling of waste building materials has attracted widespread attention at home and abroad.Among them,the material recycling concept proposed by Thomas Law has been recognized and praised by many experts.As a new concept of sustainable design in the field of building materials,under the guidance of circular economy,it has pointed out a new development path for the recycling of building materials and sustainable building design.Thomas Law’s material recycling concept is developed on the basis of the "circular economy theory" and the "cradle to cradle concept".The core of the concept is how to maximize the reuse of waste materials.Relying on Thomas Law’s material recycling concept and auxiliary tools such as the Madaster platform to reuse materials that are still valuable in use,to a large extent,reduce the generation of construction waste and energy consumption,which is important for building resource conservation An environmentally friendly society is of great significance.In order to better understand and learn the ways and methods of material recycling in its concept,this article will study and introduce the specific content of Thomas Law’s material recycling concept and its auxiliary tool Madaster platform from the perspective of building material recycling.Apply and summarize the design process guided by its concept through the existing project experience.Finally,a building in Shandong Jianzhu University was selected as the object of this design study.Under the guidance of this concept,field investigations,building dismantling,material identity registration,etc.were carried out,and old building materials were used for new building design in order to explore a set Architectural design process guided by Thomas Law’s material recycling concept and promoted its use.The main research contents of the thesis are as follows:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly includes the research background of the thesis,research purpose and significance,research content and methods,and analyzes the research characteristics and innovations of this article.The second chapter is the preliminary analysis part of this article.It introduces the concept,traceability,influencing factors and value of material circulation,and summarizes and analyzes relevant research and practice at home and abroad.The third chapter is the key theory overview part of the thesis,which summarizes and analyzes the specific content of Thomas Law’s material cycle concept.The fourth chapter is the application part of the concept,which summarizes the design method and process guided by the concept through the study of two actual successful cases.Chapter 5 is the practical application part of Thomas Law’s material recycling concept in the recycling of building materials.Under the guidance of this concept,explore how to maximize the reuse of waste building materials and find the best reuse plan for old materials.As the final summary part of the thesis,Chapter VI analyzes the deficiencies in the research,and then puts forward some relevant suggestions,in order to better develop the recycling of building materials in future research and practice.
