| At the end of the 20th century, the theory of preventive conservation shifted from the field of museum collections preservation to the field of architectural heritage conservation. The concept of heritage conservation advocated by the theory of preventive protection has greatly influenced the theoretical system of architectural heritage protection in the world. In its infancy, there has not establish a comprehensive conservation system of different architectural materials, and there are still many deficiencies to be filled. The majority of architectural heritage in China are built with timber frame as the main bearing system. The reinforcement of timber components and the prevention and control of their diseases are the cornerstones of maintaining the stability of wooden frames, among which the damage of carpenter bees has become a major threat to the stability of timber frames due to its aggregation and asymmetry of internal and external damage. Therefore, this paper is oriented to preventive conservation, trying to grasp the risk characteristics of carpenter bees infestation from time to space to specific components with the help of field research,non-destructive testing technology and mechanical software simulation calculation, and to determine the key preservation scope for the daily maintenance of common timber components infested with carpenter bees. This will expand the basic research of wooden structures conservation and further add to the improvement of preventive conservation system.Through extensive field research and experimental analysis, the paper aims to provide a direction for the prevention of carpenter bees pests from basic research. This paper is based on the demand of preventive conservation, clarifying the concept of preventive conservation, summing up its work flow, establishing the preventive and control system of carpenter bees pests, pointing out deficiencies of the current work. After field research and evidence collection in several cultural preservation units, some of the perceived risk characteristics of carpenter bees pests were summarized in various aspects. With the help of CT tomographic nondestructive testing technology, the internal conditions of a single component were tested and studied, finally restoring the multiple infestation patterns inside the component and once again clarifying the danger of carpenter bees infestation.Based on this result, the force analysis of typical insect-infested members was carried out separately and the maximum damage area of each member was finally obtained, which provided a reference basis for insect infestation prevention and control with practical and powerful data. This paper completes the integration of the multidisciplinary research contents of architectural heritage conservation, wood conservation, wooden structures mechanics, etc. With the theory of preventive conservation of architectural heritage as a guideline, the basic knowledge of wood conservation and wooden structures mechanics as an aid,and literature research, field survey, inspection test, and mechanical simulation analysis as the main research methods, this paper reveals the mechanism of carpenter bees pest to a certain extent, and fills the lack of carpenter bees pest research in the existing architectural heritage conservation system while promoting the transformation of conservation work from treatment to prevention. |
