Research On The Impact Of The Opening Of High-Speed Rail On The Quality Of Urban Economic Growth

As an important transportation resource,high-speed railway plays a key role in attracting capital and labor factors and adjusting regional industrial structure,and can effectively promote the social and economic development of cities along the route With the rapid development of China’s high-speed railway,it has become the mainstream mode of transportation in China.The economic spillover effect and spatial optimization effect brought by the opening of high-speed railway have also attracted widespread attention.Based on this background,this paper proposes a new thinking:Does the development of high-speed rail promote the improvement of urban economic growth quality?This paper will measure the efficiency,stability and sustainability of economic growth in the process of economic growth.At the same time,this paper screened the panel data of 275 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2016 for corresponding econometric analysis,and investigated the economic effect and quality of growth brought by high-speed rail through the method of differential model(DID)In addition,through the method of heterogeneity analysis,this paper further analyzes the differences caused by such factors as city size,geographical location and regional terrain differences in the economic growth effect of high-speed rail,and carries out the corresponding robustness test and mechanism testThe empirical analysis shows that:(1)The opening of high-speed railway has a significant positive impact on the quality of economic growth of cities along the route,and performs well in the three indicators of growth efficiency,growth stability and growth sustainability.(2)Sample heterogeneity analysis shows that different channels of effect of high-speed rail opening will have different channels and ways of effect on economic growth quality.In terms of city size,compared with large cities,high-speed rail construction will have a more significant positive impact on the growth of economic quality of small and medium-sized cities.In terms of regional heterogeneity,due to the particularity of its geographical location,the western region plays a more prominent role in the quality of economic growth,which is mainly reflected in the aspects of growth efficiency and sustainability.In the middle and eastern regions,it is found that some sub-channels have significant effect in the test,but the overall effect on the quality of economic growth is not significant.In terms of terrain heterogeneity,the opening of high-speed rail has a significant improvement effect on the growth quality in high terrain areas,but has no significant effect on the regression of comprehensive growth quality and partial channel test in the middle and low terrain areas.(3)From the perspective of the mediating effect and moderating effect of urbanization process,the opening of high-speed rail has indeed improved the degree of marketization and innovation of cities,thus improving the quality of economic growth.Through empirical research,this paper tests the effect of high-speed rail on the quality of urban economic growth,provides an empirical basis for the effect of high-speed rail opening,and accordingly puts forward corresponding policy recommendations,providing an empirical reference for the evaluation of high-speed rail policy.
