The Analysis Of Colonial Architecture In Vientiane Capital,Laos

During the French colonial period,Laos was ruled by the French in 1893.At that time,the elements of French architecture were integrated into Lao architecture and influenced the architecture of many major in towns and the cities especially in Vientiane Capital with the French colonial style.At present,Laos is developing continuously,many colonial buildings have been renovated to change their functions,some of them are useless and abandoned by people.At the same time,the relevant organizations have also recognized the value of the unique historical architectural heritage of French architectural style and characteristic style,which should be preserved for the new generation to understand and study the knowledge background in the past.Presently,there are many architectural styles in Laos,including Lao ancient building,Lao colonial building,Lao Pa Nyuk building(Applied Lao Buildings),Modernized building,Multi-house buildings.Most of research studies on the origin architecture refer Lao ancient style and Lao Pa Nyuk style but there are no research studies about Lao colonial style,Colonial style where located in the conservation area.in order to preservation,this paper aims to survey the Lao Colonial building style,Colonial building style and Lao Pa Nyuk building style to collect the total amount by data collection form for to be the database of the French architecture buildings in Vientiane Capital.According to the survey found the French architecture buildings total is 50 buildings in Vientiane Capital including Colonial building has 37 buildings,Lao Colonial building has 12 buildings and Lao Pa Nyuk building has 1 building.the Location in Chanthabouly district has 40 buildings,Sysattanak district has 9 buildings and Saysettha district has 1 building.Besides,this paper still purposes to find the appropriate criteria of renovation and expansion of colonial building in Vientiane Capital by case study of National Library of Laos building to makes a deeper understanding and study of the elements architectural details to propose a design new building to connect with the existing National Library of Laos by applying the entity of the colonial building design.
