Research On The Design Concept Of Heterogeneity And Symbiosis In The Transformation Of Old Buildings

It can be said that during the post-industrialisation period when the industrialised society was stepping forward to information-based,the development of mainstream architectural ideology has been tortuously advancing in the binary opposition between modernism and postmodernism.However,in the era of social changes and the coexistence of multiple values,emerging developing countries have joined the ranks of global competition.Different cultures have sought dialogue and cooperation in the collision,and have enhanced their voices in the competition with Western mainstream culture,achieving symbiosis and jointly establishing a new global order.The emergence of heterogeneous symbiosis has its inevitability,and it has been continuously expanding into various disciplines.In China,where the industrialisation process is coming to its end,a large number of urban spaces and old buildings is in need to adapt to the new changes brought by the era of globalisation.The widespread existence of disused buildings provides architects with the freedom to interpret their ideas into reality.The heterogeneous symbiosis has a positive guiding role in dealing with the chaotic scene presented by contemporary Chinese architecture discipline.Combining heterogeneous symbiosis with renovations on old buildings is one of the ways to embrace creative ideas.The heterogeneous symbiosis is neither abandoning the dialectical unity of dualism,nor seeking the same principle beyond dualism.Heterogeneous symbiosis is essentially the principle of fluid diversity.Constantly denying and absorbing heterogeneous non-mainstream culture is not a blind negation of mainstream ideas and systems,but it is also making criticism while referencing to it.This article explores the symbiotic relationship between old buildings and heterogeneous elements through progressive analysis.First,the form beauty of the composition of heterogeneous elements is discussed at the physical space level;second,the role of the heterogeneous elements is analysed at the level of the material’s own attributes;and finally,the change in the atmosphere of the place after the addition of the heterogeneous elements is discovered at the level of the meaning of difference generation.This advancement from a single structure to a deep structure is also in line with the transition from epistemology to ontology.As the boundaries and functions of build structures continue to expand with the development of society,architects must also enrich and update their design concepts and theoretical reserves.Disused old buildings carried not only our memories and history,but also witnessed traditional Chinese culture.How do we survive in the Western-led discourse system? the idea of heterogeneous symbiosis expresses that there is no high-end and low-end in culture.We must pursue compete through innovation,and we must pursue coexistence through competition.
