A Comparative Study Of The Competitiveness Of Chinese And American Contractors

According to Engineering News Record’s report of Top 250 contractors in 2015,China and USA have more enterprises listed than any other countries.Their amount of contracts are similar,however,the overseas income are quite different.With the promotion of economic globalization and need of personal improvement,Chinese contractors are focusing on the expansion of business and development of competitiveness.Based on the theory of learning organization,we conduct an empirical research on international competitiveness from the perspective of international diversity.Our findings are as belows:Those contractors’competitiveness increased when they penetrated into more countries,and psychic distance negatively moderated this relationship.Besides,their distribution of projects in different areas positively affect contractors’competitiveness,while psychic distance positively moderated this relationship.This study also suggests that the results above are different between Chinese and USA’s samples.Theoretically we discussed the influence on international competitiveness from its diversity and conducted the study from both enterprise level and nation level.Besides,we also advice Chinese contractors to be cautious on its penetration and with clear target.Moreover,they’d better start their overseas business from where psychic distance is relatively small.
