Osteoporosis is one of the health problems troubling the elderly. The traditional method of diagnosis is using X ray.In comparison, using ultrasound has the advantage of low cost, good portability and no ionizing radiation.Quantitative ultrasound technique mainly includes ultrasonic transmission method, ultrasonic axial transmission method and ultrasonic backscattering method.Compared with the previous two,the ultrasonic backscattering method can provide the information of bone microstructure,so it has broad application prospects. This paper is focused on ultrasonic backscattering method and compares the advantages and disadvantages of the parameters. The study proposes ultrasonic backscattering imaging method to make up for errors causing by the anisotropy of cancellous bone and improves accuracy and consistency. In addition, this paper designs the hardware of ultrasonic bone densitometer using ultrasonic backscattering. The hardware has the characteristics of good portability, high sampling precision, large controllable gain range,non-restricted positions and high transmission rate. Finally, this paper builds the ultrasonic backscattering signal simulation system using three-dimensional bone model. The parameters of the simulation system can be adjusted, which facilitates the validation and optimization of algorithms.Because the ultrasonic bone densitometer using ultrasonic backscattering is still in the research stage, this paper can promote further research and clinical application of the ultrasonic backscattering in bone density measurement.
