Legacy chemicals polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs)and polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs)or emerging chemicals emering halogenated flame retardants(EHFRs)that may cause harm to the environment and human health,attracting more and more public attention.Quantitative analysis of 75 legacy and emerging chemicals in 76 surface sediment samples in three typical areas(Taihu lake,Chemical plant area,E-waste dismantling site)found that the average concentration of legacy and emerging chemicals was E-waste dismantling site(PCBs:58.5 ng/g,PBDEs:74.4 ng/g,EHFRs:8.62 ng/g)> Chemical plant area(PCBs:0.36 ng/g,PBDEs:37.7 ng/g,EHFRs:3.77 ng/g)> Taihu lake(PCBs:0.05 ng/g,PBDEs:7.84 ng/g,EHFRs:0.13 ng/g),and the concentration of legacy and emerging chemicals in the E-waste dismantling sites was significantly higher than other area.Medium chlorinated(Tri,Tetra,Penta-PCBs)was mainly pollutions in both three areas,Tetra-PCBs was the most serious,and pollution caused by PBDEs were mainly due to high brominated chemicals(Nona,Dece-BDEs),BDE-209 was the most important pollutions in three typical areas.The main pollutions in three typical areas of EHFRs was DPs(Syn/Anti-Dechlorane Plus).Suspect screening of surface sediment samples in three typical areas wss a supplement and expansion of quantitative analysis.Based on the Tox Cast,a database of 119bromine-containing compounds was established.Three chemicals were successfully found.They are 1,2,4-Tribromobenzene/1,3,5-Tribromobenzene,1,4-Dibromobenzene,1,1’-Oxybis(2,3,4,5-tetrabromobenzene),all belong to the level four confirmation.It provides an information for next step of quantitative analysis in surface sediments.A risk assessment about the adverse effects with legacy and emerging chemicals in the surface sediment samples of three typical areas on the benthic organisms inhabit in surface sediments was carried out.It was found that the adverse effects about benthic organisms of the Taihu lake and the Chemical plant area can be ignored.The PCBs in the surface sediment samples around the E-waste dismantling area may have an adverse effect on benthic organisms,and then pass through the food chain eventually threaten surrounding area human health.
