| The pig breeding industry occupies an important position in China’s agricultural production. The pig breeding industry is facing more and more severe environmental problems while developing rapidly. With the enhancement of residents’ awareness of environmental protection and the promulgation and implementation of various environmental regulations and policies.China’s pig breeding industry has undergone major adjustments.Studying the impact of the regional layout of China’s pig farming industry and the adjustment of the scale of farming under the background of environmental regulations is of great significance for further understanding of the development and changes of China’s pig industry. This paper first uses long-term data to describe the current situation and evolution of the regional layout and scale adjustment of pigs in China, and analyzes the impact of environmental regulations. On this basis, the panel data from 1998 to 2018 were used to conduct an empirical test on the impact of environmental regulations. The study found that under the premise of controlling other influencing factors, environmental regulations still show a significant negative impact on pig production, that is,pork production will decline in areas with strict environmental regulations.Further analysis found that under the same intensity of environmental regulations, the impact of pig farming in areas with greater land carrying capacity was less affected. This can also explain that with the increasingly unified environmental regulation policies in various regions of the country, environmental regulation policies will continue to play a role by affecting the importance of other conditions. The cost of pollution control in different regions under the environmental regulation policy is different, resulting in a new shift and layout of the pig breeding industry.Environmental regulations have a positive role in promoting the large-scale development of pig farming. In terms of the number of farms, the increase in the intensity of environmental regulations has significantly reduced the number of pig farms. The larger the size of the farm, the less affected by environmental regulations. From the perspective of the volume of slaughter, the output of small and medium-scale pig farms is affected by the environment The impact of regulation has fallen the most, and large-scale farms under the influence of environmental regulation policies have expanded their scale and increased their quotas. The main reason for the withdrawal of the free-range farmers from farming and the rapid decline in the number of stalls is the increase in non-agricultural employment opportunities, not the impact of environmental regulations.Taken together, there has been a "pollution paradise effect" in the development of the pig breeding industry over the past two decades. At present,in some areas with relatively loose environmental regulations, pig production has grown rapidly and has become a major emerging pork producing area. However,it is characterized by the expansion of free-range farmers and small and medium-scale production. |
