| The tremendous increase in the number of population and vehicles across the globe has increased the vulnerability of the people to road traffic crashes. These crashes caused several fatalities and injuries, depending on the associated factors, can be various of crashes patterns in frequency levels. This thesis focused on the identification of key risk factors and their association with numerous fatality and injury frequency levels of Angola National Wide Network Road Traffic Crashes. The concern about traffic safety has been growing over the years due to road traffic crashes that have been causing severe and worrying problems around the globe, and Africa presents a significant high rate of morbidity and mortality. Moreover, fatalities and injuries on motorways in Angola makes the authorities taking decisives actions has resulted into significantly reduction in road traffic crashes when in imbalance enhance road insecurity causing high crashes with human and annual economic losses superfluous to the national economy and families in individuals of active and reproductive age incapacitated, partially or permanently.Considering a historic Provincial road crash data of the previous five years(2013-2017)were collected by the Angolan Traffic Police, the data set contains 70579 crashes, resulting in 17786 fatality and 69587 injury. Therefore,it is of vital importance to understand why and how these crashes occur so that we can encourage, eliminate,or mitigate them, depending on the government interests.Due to the natural of the response variable an Poisson regression model has been estimated to study the association on contributing factors to road traffic frequency, and the model results revealed road traffic fatalities and injuries in Angola motorways depends on different explanatory variables. Moreover,a range of factors and indicators which are considered critical in the country road accidents were gathered for these study as cross-sectional data.It was assessed through the FIR(First Information Reports)model using Excel and Stata software. The results of present dissertation are expected to provide insight to National Authority and Ministry of Transportation in Angola,to input planner and policy makers to enhance road safety on motorways and help in saving valuable lives, and also will enable the authorities to define actions or measures that promote greater awareness of changes behavior, such studies are intended to recommend countermeasures to improve the road traffic safety. The authorities should increasing road diet, creating sidewalks for motorization and pedestrians cross, better signalized intersection, leading pedestrian intervals, rectangular rapid flashing beacon and also pedestrians refuge islands, all this are significant countermeasure to reduce crash rate.Furthermore,to recommend a general theoretical basis, governments should impose strict rules on the familiar speed management to drivers,to obey the speed limits, create legislative or sanctioning measures, education measures to drivers, prevention measures on roads, media, and other workshops. Finally, will eventually help to suggest countermeasures to change risk behaviors for traffic safety management in Angola. |
