| The second industrial revolution changed human life styles and improved the quality of human life.It also accelerated the process of industrialization and urbanization. However, due to the increase in the use of fossil energy,a large number of harmful greenhouse gas emissions brought about a certain degree of damage to the atmospheric environment. It is imperative to actively transform the mode of global economic development. As a pillar industry in the national economy, the manufacturing industry has assisted China’s rapid economic development and achieved the goal of full employment over the years, playing an irreplaceable role in creating material wealth for the country. However, the "extensive" development of the manufacturing industry will eventually lead to huge consumption of energy resources and huge carbon emissions. In 2016,various countries passed the Paris Agreement, confirming the timetable and phased goals of national responsibility.Regarding carbon emissions per unit of GDP,my country promises to reduce by 60% to 65%from 2005 on the occasion of 2030;for total carbon emissions,we will strive to reach the highest value around 2030 and strive to reach the peak as soon as possible. As a major carbon emitter, the impact of its emission reduction effect on my country’s overall carbon emission reduction effect is self-evident.In recent years, the government has listed carbon emission intensity as a binding indicator. Therefore, this article has an impact on the carbon emission intensity of China’s manufacturing industry.Factors to carry out research.Based on the extended Kaya identities, this paper makes a "two-stage" factor decomposition of the manufacturing sector’s carbon emissions. In the first stage decomposition, the influencing factors of carbon emission intensity by sector are energy carbon emission intensity, energy consumption intensity and output structure. At the same time, the production function is used to specify the upgrading of the output structure into three aspects: technology upgrade, capital upgrade, and labor upgrade. In the second stage of decomposition, the two major influencing factors of energy carbon emission density and energy consumption intensity are further decomposed to explore the deep-seated reasons that affect the two major factors.Based on the two-stage factor decomposition,a theoretical model for research on the influencing factors of manufacturing carbon emission intensity is constructed, using statistical data from 2009 to 2017,the explanatory variable is selected as the instrumental variable, and the two-step robust system GMM method is used to analyze the sector respectively. The influencing factors of carbon emission intensity and the two major influencing factors of energy carbon emission intensity and energy consumption intensity are analyzed at the industry level. Finally, combined with the analysis of the current situation and the empirical results, this article has the following conclusions: 1.Energy carbon emission efficiency(the inverse of energy carbon emission density)and energy consumption efficiency(the inverse of energy consumption intensity)of the manufacturing sector are related to the sector’s carbon emission intensity.Significant negative correlation.Energy consumption efficiency is the leading factor in the decline of sectoral carbon emissions, followed by carbon emission efficiency. The technological level upgrade factors did not show a significant effect of promoting decline. The factor of labor upgrading shows a weak but significant effect of increasing the intensity of carbon emissions, reflecting the inefficient allocation of labor resources within the manufacturing sector in my country.2.The primary source of the impact of carbon emission density in the manufacturing sector is the transformation and upgrading of the industry’s energy structure.Typical industry 1 The role of energy consumption in increasing carbon density is weaker than that of coal consumption. The contribution of energy consumption to carbon density in typical industry 2 is similarly weaker than that of coal consumption to increase carbon density.3.The impact of energy consumption intensity in the manufacturing sector In addition to the upgrading of energy structure and the promotion of industry energy efficiency, for industries with a relatively low proportion of energy-efficient energy consumption,a way to reduce the proportion of their output value can be adopted to further improve the energy consumption efficiency of the sector.Based on the research conclusions of this article, the relevant suggestions on reducing the carbon emission intensity of China’s manufacturing sector and promoting the low-carbon development of the manufacturing sector mainly include the following measures: improving energy consumption structure, adjusting output structure, improving energy consumption efficiency in key industries, and improving government Support and give full play to the role of taxation to lay the foundation for the smooth realization of the emission reduction targets of "Made in China 2025". |
